Bache hue chawal ka Dhokla | Leftover Rice Dhokla is a yummy breakfast dish. There are variety of Dhokla dishes that are made using Besan, moong dal, or suji. This dish utilizes the leftover rice for making a tasty breakfast or snack. It is a very simple and healthy dish. It requires easily available ingredients at home like curd, suji, salt, red chili powder and gram flour. The sprinkling of red chili powder gives flavor to it. Tips and suggestions by the Mom Chef:-

  • You can either use fine or thick suji.
  • Put the fruit salt in the mixture at the last or just before steaming.
  • You can use sugar for taste and if the rice grains are thick, you can mash it for using.
  • The dhokla should be demoulded only after it cools down completely.

Ingredients

  • FOR MAKING DHOKLA BATTER
  • Leftover Rice - 1/2 cup
  • Suji/Semolina - 1 cup
  • Capsicum - 1/2 finely chopped
  • Onion/Pyaaz - 1 finely chopped
  • Carrot/Gajar - 1/2 grated
  • Ginger/Adark - 1/2 inch grated
  • Green chili/Hari mirch - 1 finely chopped
  • Gram flour/Besan - 2 tablespoon
  • Fresh curd/Dahi - 1 cup
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Red chili powder/Laal mirch powder - as per taste
  • Water - as required
  • Fruit salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Oil - for greasing the pan
  • FOR TEMPERING
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seed/Rai - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sesame seed/Til - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chili/Hari mirch - 2 to 3
  • Curry leaves - 7-8 leaves

Instructions

  1. FOR MAKING DHOKLA BATTER
  2. In a bowl, put leftover rice, suji, capsicum, carrot, onion, ginger, green chili, gram flour and fresh curd. Mix it well.
  3. Then add salt, red chili powder and put the water in small quantity. Mix the batter and make it thick consistency batter.
  4. Keep the batter for rest for 15 to 20 minutes. After 15 to 20 minutes, put the fruit salt in the batter and mix well.
  5. Grease the mould with oil and put the batter into it. Sprinkle red chili powder on it. Boil water in a steamer and place the mould on the stand in the steamer.
  6. Cover and cook for 15 minutes on medium flame. Once done, keep it aside for cooling and then take it out on the plate.
  7. FOR TEMPERING
  8. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil, put the mustard seeds, sesame seeds, green chili and curry leaves. Mix with the spoon and put it on the Dhokla.
  9. The Bache hue chawal ka Dhokla | Leftover Rice Dhokla is ready to be served with green chutney.
