Channa Sundal | Chickpea Sundal is a healthy and delicious snack.

Channa Sundal | Chickpea Sundal is a South Indian stir-fried dish prepared from chickpeas. Sundal is basically a dry lentil dish, tempered along with fresh/dry coconut. You can make sundal with other lentils like moong beans, peanuts, black-eyed peas, or corn. It is easy to prepare for a healthy brunch or snack. The flavor of mustard seeds, black gram, bengal gram, curry leaves, and the freshness of the coconut in the softly cooked chickpea enhances the taste. Try it and enjoy it with family and friends. Ingredients

  • Oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Bengal gram dal - 1 teaspoon roasted
  • Urad dal/ split skinned black gram - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Hing/ asafoetida - a pinch (optional)
  • Green chili - 3 to 4 slit
  • Curry leaves - 7 to 8
  • Chickpea/ chole - 1 small bowl boiled
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon or as required
  • Dry coconut powder - 2 to 3 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Rinse and soak the chickpeas overnight or 6 to 7 hours in enough water.
  2. Drain the water and pressure cook the soaked chickpeas with some salt and 2 to 3 cups of water.
  3. Drain the water and keep it aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan. Add bengal gram dal, urad dal, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, hing, green chili, and curry leaves. Saute it well on a low flame.
  5. Add boiled chickpeas and saute it well.
  6. Further, add turmeric powder and salt. Saute it on a low flame.
  7. Add dry coconut powder and saute it well. Turn off the flame.
  8. Delicious Channa Sundal | Chickpea Sundal is ready to be served.
