Khara Bhat | Rava Bhath is a delicious and a famous breakfast in Southern part of India. 

Khara Bhat | Rava Bhath is a super healthy and delicious breakfast. This made of lots of veggies like carrot, capsicum, beans, tomato, onion that make is healthy. Also, it is very easy to make. You can prepare this breakfast with fewer efforts. It is also popular as different names – Rava Upma, Rava Bhath, Masale Upittu. This is a good snack for tiffin and you can have this as a light dinner. So, try to make this yummy dish and enjoy with your family.

This tasty bhat was prepared by Roopa Naikji from Shimoga, Karnataka ( a visually challenged mom with 40 per cent of eyesight).

Tips and Suggestions by the Chef:-

  • You can use veggies as per the availability and choice.
  • The ratio of water and rava should be 2:1
  • Adjust the green chilli as per the taste.

Ingredients

  • Rava/Semolina/Bansi Rava - 1 Cup
  • Water - 2 Cup
  • Onion - 1 chopped
  • Green chilli - 2 to 3 chopped
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Beans - 2 to 3 Tablespoon
  • Capsicum - 2 to 3 Tablespoon
  • Carrot - 2 to 3 Tablespoon
  • Tomato - 1 chopped
  • Mustard leaves - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Chana Dal/Bengal Gram - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Urad Dal Without skin/Black gram without skin - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - 2 Tablespoon
  • Cashew nuts - few
  • Ghee/Clarified butter - 1 Tablespoon
  • Coriander leaves - as required

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the cashew nuts. Then roast sooji for 2 to 3 minutes on a low flame.
  2. Now, add oil to the pan. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter. Then add chana dal/bengal gram and black gram. Saute it.
  3. Add curry leaves, sliced onion and green chilli. Saute it.
  4. Add chopped tomato and saute it. Then add chopped beans, capsicum and saute it for 2 minutes. Add salt and mix.
  5. Then add grated carrot and cook it for a minute. Add turmeric powder and mix well.
  6. Add 2 cups of water and let it boil. Add roasted cashew nuts while boiling.
  7. Once the water gets boiled, put the flame on low and add sooji. Mix well. Cover and cook it on a low flame.
  8. When all water gets absorbed, stir it. Add ghee to it. Mix well. Then switch off the gas.
  9. For serving, take a small bowl. Fill it with Khara Bhat. Invert this bowl on a plate.
  10. Yummy 'Khara Bhat | Rava Bhath' is ready to be served.
