Makke ki roti is one of the most popular winter speciality throughout north india.

Makke Ki Roti is a indian flatbread made with maize flour/cornmeal. Makke Ki Roti is also gluten free flat bread. This is best served in winters with hot sarson ka saag and white butter.

Ingredients

  • Makke ka aata/maize flour - 1 cup
  • Cold Water/pani - as required
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Homemade ghee - 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Add makke ka aata/maize flour to a big bowl and salt together. Mix well
  2. Add water little by little, mix well and knead a stiff smooth dough.
  3. Knead the dough well for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Make round balls (small or big depends on the size of roti you want to make) from the dough.
  5. Start heating the tawa/skillet on medium flame.
  6. Sprinkle some maize flour on the circular rolling board commonly known as chakla. Place the ball on it and slightly roll it with hands by pressing on the sides.
  7. Sprinkle some flour on the rolled dough (so that the rolling pin commonly known as belan do not stick) and then roll it with the help of rolling pin/belan. Roll the roti slowly and carefully. If the side cracks, join it back with the help of hands.
  8. Place the rolled roti on tawa and cook it from both sides.
  9. Transfer the roti on medium flame/sigri and roast from both sides.
  10. Apply homemade ghee on the hot crisp makke ki roti.
  11. Deliciously hot makke ki roti is ready to be served with sarson ka saag.
