Masala Lemon Rice is a yummy rice preparation for all.

Masala Lemon Rice is a delicious South Indian style rice preparation. It uses rice, coconut, onion, garlic, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, green chilli, groundnuts, lemon. This tastes spicy and tangy with the flavour of coconut. This rice is aromatic and full of flavours. This mouthwatering dish can be a good a breakfast or snack or a light meal. It is very easy to prepare and is a hassle-free dish. All family members are going to love this dish.

Ingredients

  • Chawal/ Rice - 2 Cup
  • Paani/ Water - 4 Cup
  • Namak/ Salt - as per taste
  • Tel/ Oil - 2 Tablespoon
  • Sarso/ Mustard seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Urad dal/ Black gram without skin - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Chana dal/ Bengal gram - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Mungfali/ Groundnuts - a handful
  • Pyaaz/ Onion - 1 sliced
  • Haldi powder/ Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Nimbu/ Lemon - juice of 1 lemon or as per taste
  • Dhaniya Patta/ Corinader leaves - for garnishing
  • FOR MASALA:
  • Tel/ Oil - 1 Teaspoon
  • Dal Chini/ Cinnamon - 1 small piece
  • Laung/ Cloves - 2
  • Adrak/ Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
  • Lehsun/ Garlic - 3 to 4 cloves
  • Fresh Grated Nariyal/ Coconut - 1/4 Cup
  • Hari Mirch/ Green Chilli - 3 or as per taste
  • Dhaniya Patta/ Coriander Leaves - few springs

Instructions

  1. Add oil, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, garlic, fresh grated coconut and green chilli in a pan or kadai. Heat the kadai and sauté all the ingredients on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes then turn off the gas. Let it cool.
  2. After it cools, add all the ingredients along with coriander leaves in a grinder jar, add a little water, and grind it to a smooth paste. Then, keep it aside.
  3. PREPARING RICE:
  4. Meanwhile, cook the rice. Take a pressure cooker, add rice and wash it. Then add 4 cups of water and a little salt. Close the lid and place the pressure cooker on the gas stove. Cook the rice for 2 whistles on a high flame. Once done turn off the gas.
  5. PREPARING MASALA LEMON RICE:
  6. Now, heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a kadai.
  7. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  8. Then add urad dal, chana dal and groundnuts. Sauté the mix until the aroma of the raw ingredients vanishes.
  9. Add sliced onion to it and sauté it on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes or until the raw smell goes away.
  10. Add ground masala to it. Sauté and cook it on a high flame. Add salt and mix well.
  11. After all the water evaporates and it dries, add turmeric powder. Mix well. Then turn off the gas.
  12. Add lemon juice to it. Mix well (you can adjust the quantity of lemon juice to taste)
  13. Now, add cooked rice to it. Mix well. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  14. Yummy 'Masala Lemon Rice' is ready to be served.
