Namkeen Boondi | Khara Boondi is a crispy spiced snack that you can make easily at home.

Namkeen Boondi | Khara Boondi is a great Indian snack to be enjoyed at any time. These crispy golden pearls prepared from gram flour that you can serve with tea or can be used in making raita. It tastes awesome and can be munched at any time of the day. Since you are preparing this at home, it is chemical-free. When we buy from the market, it contains baking soda and preservatives. Hence it is much healthier than the marketed one. So try this boondi recipe at home and give your feedback.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can use a grater instead of a ladle (jhara) to drop boondi in oil.
  • You can add more spices in batter according to taste.
  • Don’t add too much boondi in oil at one time. Otherwise, they will stick together.
  • Fry the boondi on a medium flame.

Ingredients

  • Gram Flour / Besan - 1 cup
  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Red Chilly Powder - as per taste
  • Oil - 1 teaspoon + for frying

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, add gram flour. Add water slowly to make flowing consistency batter.
  2. Allow the batter to rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Now, add 1 teaspoon oil, salt and red chilly powder. Mix well.
  4. Meanwhile , heat oil for deep frying. Oil should be moderately hot.
  5. Hold one ladle /jhara above oil. Pour the batter slowly on the ladle. The batter will fall drop by drop.
  6. Stop once the oil gets filled with boondi. Fry them till crispy. Drain and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
  7. Clean the ladle and repeat the process with rest of the batter.
  8. Delicious '' is ready to be served.
