Namkeen chivda is a delicious anytime savory snack.

Namkeen Chivda is a tasty, crunchy and spicy snack which is cherished by many people. Chivda also called as flattened/beaten rice/poha is a day to day ingredient in Indian households. One of all time favourite homemade savory is Namkeen Chivda. This recipe is time-saving and chivda can be served with a hot cup of ginger tea. After the namkeen chivda cools down we can store it in an airtight container and enjoy it for 2-3 weeks.

Ingredients

  • Chivda/ poha - 7.5 cups
  • Peanuts/ moongfali - 3.75 cups
  • Cashew nuts/ kaju - 10-12 pieces
  • Dry coconut/ nariyal pieces - 1/2 bowl
  • Curry leaves/ meetha neem - 12-15
  • Sugar/ cheeni - 2 tablespoons
  • Citric acid powder/ taatri - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Oil/ tel - for deep frying
  • Spices as per taste : salt/ namak, turmeric/ haldi powder, black pepper/ kali mirch powder, red chili/ lal mirch powder, chaat masala

Instructions

  1. Take oil in a pan and heat it till smoking point.
  2. Take a deep sieve and put chivda in it for frying. Dip the sieve for 1 minute and fry the chivda so that they are puffed.
  3. Similarly fry the peanuts, cashew nuts, coconut pieces and curry leaves.
  4. Put all the fried stuff on a clean tissue paper so that all the extra oil is soaked by it.
  5. Mix all the fried stuff with sugar, citric acid powder and all the spices mentioned above.
  6. Crunchy and tasty Namkeen chivda is ready to be served!
