Onion Tomato Chutney is a lip-smacking chutney is a South Indian delicacy. 

Onion Tomato Chutney is a yummy chutney requires onion, tomato, dry red chillies and some spices. This chutney goes well with dosa, idli, uttapam as well as paratha and roti. This is a South Indian style recipe to make this yummy chutney. If you are facing short of time then this is a perfect dish for you. This requires very fewer efforts and time furthermore, very easy to make. All family members will love this chutney. So, try it out and let us know how you liked it.

This chutney was prepared using Prestige Express Mixer Grinder which we have gifted through Zayka Ka Tadka.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • To enhance the flavour, add ginger and garlic to it.
  • You can store this chutney in the refrigerator for up to 2 to 3 days.
  • To get a nice taste of the chutney, use a combination of local variety and hybrid tomatoes.
  • Serve this chutney with Millet Dosa, Sooji Mini Uttapam, Rawa Idli | Instant Crispy Pan Idli

Ingredients

  • Onion - 2 medium sized chopped
  • Tomato - 4 roughly chopped
  • Dry Red Chilli - 4 to 5
  • Curry leaves - 2 springs
  • Coriander leaves - a handful chopped
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Sugar - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Oil - 2 Tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Take a pan, add oil and heat it.
  2. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds. Let it splutter.
  3. Add asafoetida, turmeric powder, dry red chillies and curry leaves. Saute it.
  4. Then add chopped onion and saute it until it is translucent. Add salt and cook.
  5. Now, add chopped tomatoes to it. Mix well and cook.
  6. Cover and cook it until tomato get soften. Add sugar to it and cook on a medium flame.
  7. Once done, switch off the gas. Let it cool.
  8. Take a grinder jar, add cooked tomato mixture. Grind it using Prestige Express Mixer Grinder.
  9. Make a smooth paste. Then transfer to a bowl or put the lid store it directly in the jar.
  10. Yummy 'Onion Tomato Chutney' is ready to be served.
