Balushahi is a traditional dessert from Bihar and famous across India.

Balushahi is a dessert made up of refined flour, lots of ghee/clarified butter and sugar. It is a yummy dessert for the festive occasion. It can be consumed as a snack too. This mouthwatering dish can be easily made at home.

Ingredients

  • All purpose flour - 1 and 1/2 Cup
  • Curd - 4 Tablespoon
  • Ghee - 2 Cup
  • Baking soda - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Sugar - 2 Cup
  • Sliced almonds and pistachios - for garnishing

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, sieve all-purpose flour and baking soda together. Add 6 tablespoons ghee in it and mix it properly.
  2. Add curd and mix it well to make a dough. Cover it with a wet cloth and keep it aside for 30 minutes.
  3. After 30 minutes, knead the dough once again. Make balls from the dough and press it in the centre.
  4. In a pan, add sugar and 1 cup water. Boil and cook until one string consistency.
  5. In a pan and add enough ghee. Fry the balushahi on a low flame till it turns golden brown.
  6. Cool down the sugar syrup and fried balushahi.
  7. Soak the balushahi in sugar syrup for some time and put it on a plate.
  8. Yummy 'Balushahi' is ready to be served. Garnish with almond, pistachio.
