Ginger Chutney | South Indian Ginger Chutney is a delicious and healthy chutney for everyone. 

Ginger Chutney | South Indian Ginger Chutney is a mouthwatering chutney that goes well with idli, dosa or roti and rice. This is a nutritious chutney gets ready within minutes. You just need ginger, some whole spices, tamarind and jaggery to balance the spiciness. It is so amazing in taste that you will prepare this chutney again and again. Moreover, this is a very healthy chutney, rich in anti-oxidants. This also helps to cure sore throat, cough and cold. Along with this, it helps to improve the immune system. Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can reduce the quantity of red chillies. Adjust it as per our taste.
  • As the ginger and red chillies are used in the chutney. To balance the spiciness, tamarind and jaggery are used.
  • You can adjust the consistency of the chutney as per your choice.
  • You can store the chutney in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.

Ingredients

  • FOR CHUTNEY:-
  • Adrak/ Ginger - 1/2 Cup chopped
  • Sabut Dhaniya/ Coriander Seeds - 1 Teaspoon
  • Jeera/ Cumin seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Urad Dal/ Black gram without skin - 1 Teaspoon
  • Dana Methi/ Fenugreek Seeds - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Sukhi Laal Mirch/ Dry Red Chilli - 8 to 10 or as per taste
  • Imli/ Tamarind - small piece
  • Gud/ Jaggery - as per taste
  • Namak/ Salt - as per taste
  • FOR TADKA:-
  • Tel/ Oil - 1 to 2 Teaspoon
  • Sarso/ Mustard seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Urad Dal/ Black gram without skin - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Haldi powder/ Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Curry Patta/ Curry Leaves - few
  • Hing/ Asafoetida - a pinch

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a pan. Add dry red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, black gram without skin, fenugreek seeds, and tamarind. Sauté them on a low flame. Once it is aromatic, turn off the flame and let it cool completely.
  2. Meanwhile, heat 1 & 1/2 teaspoon oil in another pan and heat it. Add chopped ginger and roast it on a low flame for 2 to 3 minutes and then switch off the flame. Let it cool completely.
  3. Now, grind the coriander seed mixture in a grinder jar.
  4. Then add sautéed ginger and grind it again. Then, add jaggery, salt, and a little water. Grind it to make a smooth chutney. You can adjust the consistency to your choice. Transfer the chutney to the bowl.
  5. PREPARING THE TADKA:
  6. Heat oil in a tadka pan. Add urad dal/black gram without skin, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, and asafoetida. Then, turn off the flame and add curry leaves. Pour the tadka over the chutney.
  7. Delicious 'Ginger Chutney | South Indian Ginger Chutney' is ready to be served with idli, dosa, rice and roti.
