Jhalmuri – Kolkata Famous Snack is a delicious snack for all.

Jhalmuri – Kolkata Famous Snack is very popular and delicious street food. It has a crunch of peanuts, roasted chickpeas, tangy taste of lemon and tomato and a unique taste which comes from mustard oil. Jhal means spices and Muri means puffed rice. This is a quick and easy snack uses puffed rice. It is a complete meal as it has some veggies like cucumber, tomato, potato, roasted peanuts, roasted chickpeas, namkeen, sev and some spices. A special masala is added called muri masala which gives a nice taste to the dish. It is a healthy and easy chaat recipe. It is similar to bhel puri but not completely. This Kolkata famous street food has a unique taste. So, try to make this at home and let us know how you liked it.

  • Serve this snack immediately after preparing else it will be soggy.
  • You can add chopped onion if you want.
  • Use any namkeen or bhujiya whichever is available.

Ingredients

  • Puffed Rice - 2 Cups
  • Black Chickpeas/Kala Chana - 2 to 3 Tablespoon Boiled
  • Chana/Futana/Roasted Chickpeas - 2 Tablespoon
  • Roasted Peanuts - 2 Tablespoon
  • Namkeen - 2 Tablespoon
  • Nylon Sev - 2 Tablespoon
  • Boiled Potato - 1 chopped
  • Tomato - 1/2 chopped
  • Cucumber - 1/2 Chopped
  • Dry Coconut powder - 2 Teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves - 2 Tablespoon chopped
  • Salt - as per the taste
  • Lemon Juice - as per the taste
  • Mustard oil - 1 to Tablespoon
  • Chaat Masala - as per tatse
  • Muri Masala - as per the taste

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl, add puffed rice, boiled black chickpeas, roasted peanuts, futana/roasted chickpeas, namkeen, nylon sev, chopped boiled potato, chopped tomato, cucumber, coriander leaves, dry coconut powder, salt, chaat masala, muri masala, lemon juice, mustard oil. Mix all together.
  2. Take a paper packet, fill it with Jhalmuri and it is ready to be served.
