Kosambari | Koshambari is a popular South Indian salad.

Kosambari | Koshambari is a salad which very healthy and colourful. This uses split green gram along with some veggies and fruit. The tadka of mustard seeds, green chilli and curry leaves with ghee gives a nice taste and enhances the flavour of the salad. This is quick and easy to prepare. This salad is a part of any celebrations and festivals like Diwali in South India. This does not require many efforts and time. You have to just soak the dal and mix with the other ingredients. You can serve it as a snack or a light meal or a side dish for your meals. So, to make this salad at home and enjoy with your loved ones.

This salad was prepared by a 5-year-old and the youngest Chef of Zayka ka Tadka –  Sri Vibha.

Ingredients

  • Moong Dal without skin/ Green Gram without skin - 1/2 Cup
  • Kheera/ Cucumber - 1/2 Cup finely chopped
  • Grated Gajar/ Carrot - 1/2 Cup
  • Grated Fresh Nariyal/ Coconut - 1/4 Cup
  • Anaar Daane/ Pomegranate Seeds - 1/4 Cup
  • Nimbu Ras/ Lemon juice - 1 Teaspoon or 1/2 Lemon
  • Namak/ Salt - as per taste
  • FOR TADKA:
  • Ghee/ Clarified butter - 1 Teaspoon
  • Curry Patta/ Curry Leaves - few
  • Rai/ Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Hari Mirch/ Green Chilli - 1

Instructions

  1. Soak the moong dal/green gram for at least 2 hours. Then drain the water completely.
  2. Now, add soaked moong dal, chopped cucumber, grated carrot, coconut, pomegranate seeds, lemon juice, and salt in a bowl. Mix well.
  3. PREPARING TADKA:
  4. Heat ghee in a tadka pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and green chilli. Sauté for a few seconds. Then turn off the gas.
  5. Add tadka to the salad and mix well.
  6. Delicious 'Kosambari | Koshambari' is ready to be served.
