Misal Pav | Mumbai Famous Misal Pav is very popular street food. The curry of sprouts or whole lentils served with pav and farsan or namkeen. This is a complete meal in itself and filling too. You can enjoy this dish any time throughout the day. This is a spicy and flavourful dish. You can serve it for a party or get-togethers or as a meal for your family. This is very easy to prepare too. Ingredients

  • Pav - 2
  • Farsan - as required
  • Mixed whole lentils or sprouts (White peas, Green gram/moong, black chickpeas/kala chana, mat bean/moth bean/matki/Turkish gram) - 1 Cup
  • Onion - 1 finely chopped
  • Tomato - 1 finely chopped
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Red Chilli powder - 2 Teaspoon
  • Ginger-Green Chilli-Garlic paste - 1 Teaspoon
  • Misal Masala - 1 & 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Water - as required
  • Butter - 2 Tabeslpoon
  • Oil - 1 Tablespoon
  • Coriander leaves - a handful chopped

Instructions

  1. Soak the whole lentils then pressure cook it for 5 to 6 whistles.
  2. Take a pan, add oil and heat it.
  3. Add finely chopped onion and saute it on a low flame until translucent.
  4. Then add tomato and mix well. Cover the pan and cook it for 5 minutes.
  5. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, 1 teaspoon red chilli powder, ginger-green chilli-garlic paste, misal masala, salt. Mix well and cook for few seconds.
  6. Then add water and mix well. Cover it with a lid and cook it for 7 to 10 minutes. Do check in between and add water if required.
  7. Once the oil leaves from sides and it turns into smooth gravy, add boiled whole lentils. Mix well and cook. Add coriander leaves, water to adjust the consistency. Cook it for couple of minutes then switch off the gas. Transfer to a serving bowl.
  8. Now, heat butter in a tadka pan. Melt the butter then add 1 teaspoon red chilli powder. Mix well and pour this tadka over the misal.
  9. Delicious 'Misal Pav | Mumbai Famous Misal Pav' is ready to be served with farsan and pav. Serve it hot.
