Mooli Vada | Mooli Ke Pakode is a lip-smacking snack for everyone.

Mooli Vada | Mooli Ke Pakode is a very simple recipe of white radish/Mooli from Andhra Pradesh. This uses mooli/radish to make the vada. This tastes amazing and has a crispy texture. This has a nutty taste which comes from poppy seeds and coconut. It is a perfect snack for evening tea-time or when you want to eat something different. Everyone will love this vada/pakoda and demand you for more. Moreover, this is very easy to prepare using easily available ingredients. So, try to make this snack at home and enjoy it with your family and friends. Do share your feedback as well.

Tips and Suggestions by the Chefs:-

  • Remove water from the radish to prevent the vada mixture from turning soggy.
  • You can add spices according to your taste.
  • Fry the vada on a medium flame only.

Ingredients

  • Mooli/ white radish - 1 cup, grated
  • Onion - 1, chopped
  • Green chili - 2 to 3
  • Coriander leaves - a handful
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered daaliya dal/ futana/ roasted bengal gram - as required
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Poppy seeds/ khus khus - 1 tablespoon
  • Dry coconut powder/ desiccated coconut - 1 tablespoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Roasted cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala/ all spice mix - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil - 1 teaspoon + 1/2 teaspoon + for frying

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, and grate the radish. Squeeze the water completely. Also, grind the roasted bengal gram/ futana/ daaliya dal.
  2. Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a pan.
  3. Add chopped onion and green chili. Saute on a medium flame. Once the onion turns translucent, turn off the flame. Let it cool completely. Grind it to make a smooth paste.
  4. In the same pan, add 1/2 teaspoon oil. Add grated radish, salt, and turmeric powder. Mix well and saute it for 2 to 3 minutes on a medium flame. Then, turn off the flame.
  5. Take a bowl and add ground onion and green chilli, ginger-garlic paste, poppy seeds, dry coconut powder, coriander powder, roasted cumin powder, garam masala, chopped coriander leaves, powder of daaliya dal/roasted bengal gram (use as required). Mix well. This should be of a dough like consistency.
  6. Meanwhile, heat oil for frying.
  7. Make small vada and fry them on a medium flame. Once they turn golden brown on both the sides, take them out on a tissue paper.
  8. Delicious 'Mooli Vada | Mooli Ke Pakode' are ready to be served.
