Nan Khatai is a mouthwatering snack for all. 

Nan Khatai is a shortbread biscuit or cookie flavoured with cardamom. This requires gram flour, semolina, refined flour, butter and sugar. These biscuits are first originated in India. This snack is quite popular among kids and adults. This is a yummy tea-time snack option for your family. You can easily make it at home using simple ingredients. So, try to make this tasty snack at home with your kids and enjoy.

This yummy dish is prepared by Tanisha Dalmia – A 13-years-old multitalented little chef.

Tips and Suggestions by the little Chef:-

  • You can use homemade butter to make this yummy snack.
  • Pre-heating is the most important for baking. So, preheat the oven.
  • Use the butter which is at room temperature.

Ingredients

  • Besan/Gram flour - 1/2 Cup
  • Maida/Refined flour - 1/3 Cup
  • Semolina/Sooji - 1/3 Cup
  • Cardamom/Elaichi powder - 2 pinch
  • Baking powder - a pinch
  • Sugar - 2/3 Cup
  • Unsalted Butter - 1/2 Cup
  • Chopped Almonds and Cashew - as required for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl and add sugar, butter. Beat it for 10 to 15 minutes until it is creamy and smooth.
  2. Preheat the oven at 190 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes.
  3. Mix gram flour, refined flour, semolina, cardamom powder and baking powder in a bowl.
  4. Add the flour mix to the butter-sugar mix in batches.
  5. Just mix the ingredients to make a dough. Knead the mixture for 5 to 10 minutes.
  6. Now, grease a baking tray with a butter.
  7. Make a small ball of the dough. Roll it to make smooth. Flatten it using palm.
  8. Make a tic-tac board on it. Place this Nan Khatai on a baking tray. Garnish it with chopped almonds and cashew.
  9. Bake it at 190 degrees Celsius for 10 to 15 minutes.
  10. Check after 10 minutes whether it is baked. Once it turns golden brown from sides take them out or bake it for couple of minutes more.
  11. When done, take it out. Let it cool.
  12. Yummy 'Nan Khatai' is ready to be served.
