Pinwheel Roll is a spicy snack with an amazing presentation. 

Pinwheel Roll is an easy and quick appetizer. Thus, it is an ideal starter option for any special occasion. It tastes great with Tomato ketchup. You just need whole wheat dough, boiled potato, all purpose flour, and some spices to prepare this snack. Spicy potato stuffing adds a nice flavor and texture to the roll. So, try to make this recipe in your kitchen and share your feedback with us.

Tips and suggestions by the Mom Chef:

  • The roll should be dipped in the all purpose flour slurry before frying, hence the stuffing will not come out and the roll will soak less oil.

Ingredients

  • FOR PREPARING POTATO STUFFING :
  • Boiled potato / Aloo - 2 Peeled and mashed
  • Salt - As per taste
  • Turmeric powder / Haldi powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder / Lal michi powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder / Dhaniya powder - 1 tsp
  • All spice mix powder / Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
  • Roasted cumin seeds powder / Jeera powder - 1 tsp
  • Green chilli / Hari mirchi - 2 to 3 Finely chopped
  • Ginger / Adarak - 1 Inch grated
  • Coriander leaves / Hara dhaniya - A handful
  • FOR PREPARING SLURRY :
  • All purpose flour / Maida - 1 Cup
  • Salt - As per taste
  • Black pepper powder / Kali mirch - 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli flakes - 1 tsp
  • Water - As required
  • FOR PREPARING PINWHEEL ROLL :
  • Whole wheat dough / Gehu ka aata - As required
  • Oil - For frying
  • tsp = teaspoon
  • tbsp = tablespoon

Instructions

  1. FOR PREPARING POTATO STUFFING :
  2. Take boiled potato in a bowl. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, all spice mix powder, roasted cumin seeds powder, green chilli, ginger, and coriander leaves. Mix well. Keep it aside.
  3. FOR PREPARING SLURRY :
  4. Take all purpose flour, salt, black pepper powder, and chilli flakes in a bowl. Add water gradually to prepare a medium thick slurry. Keep it aside.
  5. FOR PREPARING PINWHEEL ROLL :
  6. Take small ball sized dough and make round shaped circular peda from the dough. Dust it with flour and roll a peda to make a roti. Spread the prepared potato stuffing on it.
  7. Fold the roti from one side and roll it like a swiss roll. Then cut the roll in small to medium size pieces. Press all pieces between your palms.
  8. Meanwhile, heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium flame. When the oil is medium hot, dip the prepared roll pieces in the prepared slurry, and coat it evenly. Place it gently into the hot oil.
  9. When the top surface turns light golden brown, flip them using a slotted spoon.
  10. Deep fry them on medium flame until crispy and light golden brown from both sides, and take them out to a serving plate using a slotted spoon.
  11. 'Pinwheel Roll' is ready to be served.
