Daal Baafli is a MP and Rajasthani specialty which is so delicious and yummy in taste thats its considered as a royal food in these states. One really needs to hog on these with a light stomach because you will always want to eat one more piece on eating Daal Baafli 🙂

Ingredients

  • Dal: ½ cup Pigeon Peas
  • ½ cup Dehusked black gram lentil
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 3-4 red chillies
  • Fresh coriander leaves
  • Finely chopped 1 Lemon
  • 1 tbs Ghee.
  • Ingredients for Bafli: Pinch of asafetida
  • 2 cups Wheat flour(thick)
  • ½ cup Semolina
  • ½ tsp Cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp Carom seeds
  • ½ tsp Turmeric
  • 1 cup Ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ cup oil

Instructions

  1. Method for Daal- Pressure cook pigeon peas and dehusked black gram lentil with 4-5 cup of water, salt and turmeric.
  2. Take a pan and heat ghee, add cumin seeds, red chilly, onion and tomato and fry till the onion turns brown.
  3. Add dal mixture and cook again for 5 minutes.
  4. Turn off the flame and add coriander leaves to it.
  5. Method for Bafli– Mix wheat flour, semolina, cumin seeds, carom seeds, turmeric, salt and oil.
  6. Mix well and make soft dough adding water.
  7. Make small balls out of it and gently press with the thumb giving it round shape.
  8. Take a large pan, boil water, add a pinch of turmeric to it and boil the bafli for about 5 minutes.
  9. Take out the bafli and let it dry for few minutes. Put the gas oven on flame, heat it for 1 minute.
  10. Place bafli on the grill on low flame and cover the lid and keep turning them till they are golden brown.
  11. Dip Bafli in ghee for some time and serve it with dal.
  12. Enjoy this famous UP & Rajasthani dish with your family!
