Rajasthani Dal Dhokli | One-Pot Meal is a traditional Rajasthani dish.

Rajasthani Dal Dhokli | One-Pot Meal is a special meal. It is made with green moong dal, chana dal, whole wheat flour, and some spices. It is a simple and comforting dish that is commonly enjoyed during winters in Rajasthan. The dish is easy to make in a pressure cooker. Tips and suggestions by the Mom Chef:

  • Add 1 tsp of chana dal for 1 small Cup of moong dal.
  • The dough should be medium soft to make dhokli.
  • The thickness of the dhokli can be adjusted as per choice.
  • Half roasted dhokli will give the batter taste.
  • The foam when boiling dal should be removed to make it healthy.

Ingredients

  • TO PREPARING DAL :
  • Water - As required
  • Split Green Gram / Hari Moong Dal - 1 Small Cup
  • Bengal Gram / Chana Dal - 1 tsp
  • Salt - As per taste
  • Turmeric Powder / Haldi Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder / Lal Mirch Powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • FOR PREPARING DHOKLI :
  • Wheat Flour / Gehu Ka Aata - 1/2 Cup
  • Gram Flour / Besan - 1 tsp
  • Salt - As per taste
  • Red Chilli Powder / Lal Mirch Powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder / Haldi Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida / Hing - A pinch
  • Coriander Leaves / Hara Dhaniya - A handful
  • Water - As required
  • FOR PREPARING TADKA :
  • Clarified Butter / Ghee - 2 tbsp + As required
  • Asafoetida / Hing - A pinch
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • Green Chilli / Hari Mirch - 2
  • Onion / Pyaz - 1/2 Finely chopped
  • Curry Leaves / Curry Patta - A few
  • Tomato / Tamatar - 1/2 Finely chopped
  • Red Chilli Powder / Lal Mirch Powder - 1 tsp
  • OTHER INGREDIENTS :
  • Onion / Pyaz - 2 tbsp
  • Coriander Leaves / Hara Dhaniya - For garnishing
  • tsp = teaspoon
  • tbsp = tablespoon

Instructions

  1. FOR PREPARING DHOKLI :
  2. Take whole wheat flour in a mixing bowl. Add besan, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, coriander leaves, and asafoetida. Mix well. Add water gradually to make a medium soft dough.
  3. Take medium soft wheat dough and make a round shaped small circular peda from the dough. Roll a peda to make a roti.
  4. The thickness is to be medium thick. Half roast it on tawa, cut it into square pieces.
  5. TO PREPARING DAL :
  6. Wash and soak the moong dal and chana dal in the water for 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. Boil water in a pressure cooker. Add soaked dal, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and cumin seeds. Mix well.
  8. Add a little water and boil it for 3 to 4 minutes. Keep stirring occasionally. Remove the foam when boiling dal.
  9. Add the prepared dhokli pieces and mix well. Then cover the cooker with its lid. Cook it on high flame till 1 whistle. Then keep the flame low till 2 to 3 whistles.
  10. Once done, turn off the flame and let it cool down completely. Then open it and add ghee. Mix well. Take it out in a serving bowl.
  11. FOR PREPARING TADKA :
  12. Heat ghee in a pan. Add asafoetida, cumin seeds, green chilli, and onion. Mix well.
  13. Saute it for 1 to 2 minutes on medium flame. Stir it occasionally.
  14. Now add curry leaves and tomato. Mix well. Turn off the flame and add red chilli powder and mix well.
  15. Add the prepared tadka to the prepared dal dhokli bowl. Add onion and garnish it with coriander leaves.
  16. 'Rajasthani Dal Dhokli | One-Pot Meal' is ready to be served with papad and green chilli.
