Rava Upma is a simple and quick breakfast dish.

Rava Upma is an easy and beginner-friendly breakfast recipe. This dish is full of warmth, flavour and gives a very delicious start to the day. This dish uses basic ingredients like semolina, veggies, and some spices that make this dish flavourful. Upma is quite a common breakfast especially in South India and Maharashtra. This is such an easy recipe that even those who are new to cooking can cook this breakfast dish easily. So try this simple and flavourful recipe at your home. Ingredients

  • Ghee/ Clarified butter - 2 tablespoon
  • Rai/ Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Chana dal/ Split Bengal gram - 1 teaspoon
  • Hari mirch/ Green chilli - as per taste slit
  • Curry patta/ Curry leaves - 8 to 10 leaves
  • Urad dal/ Split black gram - 1 teaspoon
  • Pyaaz/ Onion - 1 julienne
  • Sooji/ Semolina - 1 cup
  • Namak/ Salt - as per taste
  • Haldi powder/ Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water - 2 cup
  • Dhaniya patta/ Coriander leaves - for garnishing
  • Nimbu ras/ Lemon juice - a dash

Instructions

  1. Roast semolina in a pan for about 3 to 4 minutes on low-medium flame.
  2. Meanwhile, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds, chana dal, green chilli, curry leaves and urad dal and sauté them for a few seconds.
  3. Add onion to the pan and sauté it well for about a minute.
  4. Add salt and turmeric powder to the pan and mix them well with other ingredients.
  5. Add roasted semolina to the pan and it well with other ingredients.
  6. Add water to the pan and keep stirring it until the water is completely soaked.
  7. Add 1 tablespoon of ghee to the upma and mix it well. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  8. Turn off the flame and add a dash of lemon to the upma.
  9. Rava Upma is ready to be served.
