Stuffed Tomato | Bharva Tamatar is a delicacy prepared from stuffing tomatoes with a spicy potato filling and cooking it in gravy. This delicious dish can be enjoyed on special occasions. Not only does it taste delicious, but it also looks rich and colorful and is a great dish for a party menu. The filling is generally prepared from potatoes and spices. The stuffed tomatoes are then simmered in a gravy till it becomes soft and juicy. Stuffed Tomatoes can be enjoyed along with roti, paratha, poor, rice or pulao. The best part is that this healthy recipe requires a few ingredients and is simple to prepare. Ingredients

  • Potatoes - 3 medium-sized boiled
  • Salt - as required
  • Red chili powder - 2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Amchur/ dry mango powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chili - 1 finely chopped
  • Fennel seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Tomatoes - 6 to 7 medium-sized
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water - as required for the consistency
  • Cheese - as required for garnishing
  • Coriander leaves - finely chopped as required for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl, add boiled potatoes, and mash it.
  2. Add salt, red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, amchur powder, green chili, and fennel seeds.
  3. Now, take out the top of the tomatoes and scoop out all the pulp. Set this pulp aside as we will be using this to make the gravy.
  4. Fill the tomatoes with the stuffing we had prepared earlier. Do not overfill the tomatoes with the stuffing.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, and mustard seeds, roast it until it starts to crackle. Add stuffed tomatoes. Cover and cook it for 2 minutes.
  6. Now, add the pulp of the tomatoes that we had set aside. Grind it before adding it.
  7. Add around 1 tablespoon of stuffing in the gravy, which helps to thicken the gravy. Keep the flame medium.
  8. Further, add water to it. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cover and cook it for 2 to 3 minutes.
  9. Now, turn off the flame and transfer it to the serving plate. Garnish it with cheese and coriander leaves.
  10. Delicious Stuffed Tomato | Bharva Tamatar is ready to be served
