Stuffed Tomato Bonda is a perfect snack item that can be best enjoyed when paired with a hot glass of tea on a beautiful rainy day. This is a very easy snack to prepare and does not require any elaborate preparation. This snack also does not take much time to prepare and hence is a quick recipe. It is a unique recipe that uses potato stuffings inside a tomato and is prepared like a pakoda. Both kids, as well as adults, will enjoy this recipe. Ingredients

  • FOR PREPARING THE STUFFING-
  • Tej patta/ Bay leaf - 1
  • Sabud Dhaniya/ Coriander seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Haldi powder/ Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Laal mirch powder/ Red chilli powder - as per taste
  • Aamchur powder/ Dry mango powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Hing/ Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Dhaniya powder/ Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Hari mirch/ Green chilli - as per taste
  • Namak/ Salt - as per taste
  • Boiled Aloo/ Potato - 1 cup mashed
  • TO PREPARE THE BATTER-
  • Besan/ Gram flour - as required
  • Ajwain/ Carom seeds - a pinch
  • Baking soda - a pinch
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Laal mirch powder/ Red chilli powder - as per taste
  • Water - as per required consistency
  • OTHER INGREDIENTS-
  • Tamatar/ Tomato - 3
  • Oil - for frying

Instructions

  1. TO PREPARE THE STUFFING :
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add bay leaf, crushed coriander seeds and let them crackle.
  3. Thereafter, add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, dry mango powder, asafoetida, coriander powder, green chilli, salt and potato to the pan and let it cook for 2-3 minutes on medium flame. Keep aside and let it cool.
  4. TO PREPARE THE BONDA :
  5. Cut the upper part of the tomato and remove the inner pulp from it. Stuff the tomato with the potato fillings till the brim. Do not let it overflow above the brim.
  6. In a bowl, add gram flour, salt, red chilli powder, baking soda, carom seeds, and water to make a batter of medium-flowing consistency.
  7. Meanwhile heat oil in a pan to fry the bonda.
  8. Dip the stuffed tomato into the batter properly and drop it into the hot oil to fry it on medium flame.
  9. Stuffed Tomato Bonda is ready to be served.
