Thai Rice Balls Salad is a lip-smacking salad for all.

Thai Rice Balls Salad is a crispy salad made from crispy rice balls. This has a crunch from rice balls, onion, peanuts and it seasoned with soy sauce, green chilli. This is a little spicy, sour and little sweet at the same time. The rice balls require cooked rice, rice flour, soy sauce, Thai red curry paste with a dash of kaffir lime leaves. This mixture is deep-fried to make crispy balls. Moreover, this aromatic and flavourful salad is very easy to prepare too. This is a famous street food in Thailand. It is a complete meal which gets ready on the go. So, try to make this salad at home and enjoy with your loved ones.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • If the rice mixture seems dry then add 1 to 2 teaspoons of water to bind the ingredients. Make firm balls of the mixture.
  • Make the rice balls crispy (fry them on a medium flame) and let them cool completely. Then only use the balls to make the salad.

Ingredients

  • FOR RICE BALLS:
  • Cooked Chawal/ Rice -1 Cup
  • Chawal ka Aata/ Rice flour - 2 Tablespoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 Tablespoon
  • Thai Red Curry paste - 1 Tablespoon
  • Kaffir Lime leaves - 1 finely chopped
  • Tel/ Oil - as required for frying
  • FOR SALAD:
  • Pyaaz/ Onion - 1/2 Cup or less sliced
  • Moongfali/ Peanuts - 1/2 Cup roasted and peeled
  • Dhaniya Patta/ Coriander leaves - a handful
  • Pudina Patta/ Mint Leaves - few
  • Lehsun/ Garlic - 1 clove sliced
  • Adrak/ Ginger - 1 inch piece julienne
  • Hari Pyaaz/ Spring Onion greens - 2 Tablespoon chopped
  • Nimbu/ Lemon - 1/2
  • FOR SALAD DRESSING:
  • Paani/ Water - 1 Teaspoon
  • Vinegar - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 Teaspoon
  • Hari Mirch/Green chilli - 1 & 1/2 Teaspoon finely chopped
  • Cheeni/ Sugar - 1 Teaspoon

Instructions

  1. PREPARING THE RICE BALLS:
  2. In a bowl, add cooked rice, rice flour, soy sauce, Thai curry paste, and chopped kaffir lime leaves. Mix well all the ingredients. If the mixture seems dry, add 1 to 2 teaspoon water to bind all the ingredients.
  3. Make equal, lemon-sized balls of the mixture. Meanwhile, heat oil for frying.
  4. Once the oil is hot, fry the balls on a medium flame until crisp and nice brown in colour. Take them out on a tissue paper. Break the balls into small chunks and let them cool completely.
  5. PREPARING THE SALAD:
  6. Take a large mixing bowl and add rice ball chunks.
  7. In a bowl, add water, vinegar, soy sauce, finely chopped green chilli, and sugar. Mix well. Add this mixture into the bowl.
  8. Add sliced onion, peanuts, spring onion greens, coriander leaves, sliced garlic, and ginger julienne. Tear the mint leaves with hands and add to the bowl. Squeeze half a lemon to the bowl. Mix well.
  9. Transfer to the serving plate. Garnish the salad with onion rings.
  10. Yummy and crispy 'Thai Rice Balls Salad' is ready to be served.
