Akki Roti is a unique dish of Karnataka.

Akki Roti is a very famous breakfast dish of Karnataka. The main ingredient is rice flour. Basically, it is roti made by using the rice flour. The other ingredients include cumin seeds, sesame seeds, ground peanuts and coriander leaves. The more the amount of coriander leaves, more tasty it becomes. Adding the vegetables like grated carrot, onion, green chili makes it palatable. It tastes great with curd or pickle. So, try this recipe and let us know your feedback in the comment section.

Tips and suggestions by the Mom Chef:-

  • Lightly saute the sesame seeds and then add to the dough mixture.
  • Instead of green chili, you can add red chili powder.
  • You can make this dish by adding onion and radish also.
  • To spread and make the akki roti, you can use plastic cover.
  • If the roti is more thin, it will become more crispy.
  • By making small holes in the roti, the heat spreads evenly, so that it cooks from all the sides.
  • The lower the gas flame is, crispier the roti will become.
  • You can use kadhai to spread and make the roti, it helps to give a round shape.

Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 200 grams
  • Cumin seeds/Jeera - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds/Til - 1 to 2 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Green chili/Hari mirch - 1 to 2 no
  • All purpose flour/Maida - 3 to 4 tablespoon (optional)
  • Peanuts/Mungfali - a handful
  • Carrot - 1/2 to 1 no grated
  • Coriander leaves - a handful chopped
  • Water - as required
  • Oil - as required
  • Clarified butter/Ghee - as required

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, take the rice flour, put cumin seeds, sesame seeds, salt to taste and ground green chili. Roast and coarsely grind the peanuts and then add.
  2. Then, put the grated carrot, and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well. Put water as required and make dough of medium consistency.
  3. Taka a pan, put 1 tablespoon of oil on it. Take a medium portion of the dough and place on the oil. Grease the fingers with oil.
  4. Press and spread with the fingers. Make as thin as you want and make 3 to 4 small holes with the finger. Put some ghee in the holes.
  5. Place it on the gas stove and switch on the gas. Keep the gas flame on medium. Cover and cook for 4 minutes from one side, flip and cook from the other side.
  6. Take it out on a plate and put some butter on it and serve with either curd or pickle.
  7. The Akki Roti is ready to be served.
