Bajre Ki Rab | Bajre Ki Rabdi is a winter special health drink.

Bajre Ki Rab | Bajre Ki Rabdi is a super nutritious and delicious drink for the winter season. It provides heat and energy to the body as well as prevents cough and cold. This is quick and easy to prepare. This has some herbs and spices along with some dry fruits. This makes it a healthy and tasty drink. In winters one should consume this drink on a daily basis because it boosts immunity. Moreover, it helps to reduce weight. So, try to make it at home and be healthy this winter season.

This drink was prepared by Bharti Mehta – a lovely 75-year-old Grandma.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • Instead of pearl millet flour/bajra aata, whole wheat flour/gehu ka aata can be used
  • Fresh coconut gives a nice flavor to the drink, but. if required,  dry coconut as well can be used.
  • It is best consumed hot in the morning.
  • This drink should be made with homemade chai masala.

Ingredients

  • Bajra aata/ pearl millet flour - 1 tablespoon
  • Gond/ edible gum - 8 to 10 pieces
  • Cinnamon stick/ dalchini - 1 small stick
  • Clove/ laung - 2 to 3
  • Carom seeds/ ajwain - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Poppy seeds/ khus khus - 1 teaspoon
  • Saffron/ kesar - a few strands
  • Nutmeg powder/ jaifal powder - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
  • Dry ginger powder/ sonth - 1 teaspoon
  • Ganthoda/ ganthila/ pipri powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chai masala/ tea powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cardamom/ elaichi powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Grated jaggery/ gud or jaggery powder - 2 to 3 tablespoon or as per taste
  • Chopped cashew and almonds - as required (roasted)
  • Grated coconut - as required
  • Water - 2 small bowl/ katori
  • Ghee/ clarified butter - 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon ghee in a pan.
  2. Add edible gum and let it splutter.
  3. Add cinnamon stick, cloves, carom seeds, and poppy seeds. Then, add 2 small bowls of water and bring it to boil.
  4. Meanwhile, heat 1 teaspoon ghee in a pan. Then, add bajra/pearl millet flour and roast it until it turns light brown. Add this roasted flour to the contents of the other pan.
  5. Cook the rab on a low flame. Then, add saffron, nutmeg powder, dry ginger powder, ganthoda/pipri powder, tea powder, cardamom powder, and jaggery. Mix well and let it cook.
  6. Add roasted and chopped cashews and almonds, and grated coconut. Let them cook for a minute. Then, turn off the flame.
  7. Delicious and healthy 'Bajre Ki Rab | Bajre Ki Rabdi' is ready to be served. Serve it hot and enjoy it.
