Bharwa Tinde is a delicious sabzi from North Indian cuisine,

Bharwa Tinde is a lip-smacking preparation of apple gourd. This quick and easy dish goes well with roti/paratha or even with dal-rice. It is absolute amazing yet a simple dish. You can easily prepare this dish at home and it gets ready within minutes without much preparation. This will be a hit once made in the house. Apart from this tinda/apple gourd is a very healthy vegetable. This vegetable is good for the stomach as well as hairs and skin. It helps to remove toxins from the body. So, try this sabzi at home and enjoy with your family.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • Make sure the tinda/apple gourd is tender else it will not taste good because of the seeds.
  • You can add amchur powder/dry mango powder instead of lemon juice to the masala.
  • Adding curd enhances the taste of sabzi. You can use fresh malai/cream as well instead of curd.
  • Pressure cook the sabzi first on a high flame then lower the flame. Shake the pressure cooker in between so that the sabzi will not burn.

Ingredients

  • Tinde/Apple Gourd - 4
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 & 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Lemon Juice - juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Fresh Curd - 1 & 1/2 Tablespoon
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Oil - 1 & 1/2 Tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the apple gourd/tinde. The cut it from top. Make 2 slits but make sure they are joined from the bottom.
  2. Now, take a bowl and add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt, lemon juice. Mix well.
  3. Stuff this masala to the tinde.
  4. Heat a pressure cooker and add oil.
  5. Add asafoetida then cumin seeds. Let the seeds crackle.
  6. Add stuffed tinde/apple gourd. Saute for few seconds.
  7. Add beaten curd and mix well. Then close the lid. Keep the flame high. Once it starts whistling lower the flame and cook for about 5 to 7 minutes.
  8. Shake the pressure cooker in between so that the tinde will not burn. Immediately switch off the flame after 5 to 7 minutes. Let it cool.
  9. Delicious 'Bharwa Tinde' is ready to be served.
