Chickpea Sundal | Chana Sundal is a popular and South Indian stir-fried dish.

Chickpea Sundal | Chana Sundal is a South Indian recipe prepared from chickpeas and peanuts. Sundal is basically a dry chickpea preparation spiced, tempered along with fresh coconut. It is very simple and easy to prepare and can be served for a healthy breakfast with the minimum efforts of 5 minutes. Soak the chickpea and peanut overnight and then pressure cook them. Once they are cooked soft, it’s just easy to temper them and add some fresh coconut. This is also a no onion no garlic recipe.   • Make sure to soak and boil the chickpea and peanuts otherwise it will not cook properly.
  • You can also prepare separately chickpea and peanut instead of mixing them.
  • You can also use fresh coconut or coconut powder instead of grated dry coconut.

Ingredients

  • Ghee/ clarified butter - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Roasted bengal gram/ chana dal/ futana - 1 tablespoon
  • Split urad dal/ split and husked black gram - 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili - as required finely chopped
  • Curry leaves - 7 to 8
  • Chole/ chickpea and peanuts - 1 bowl (mix)
  • Water - as required
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - as required
  • Grated dry coconut - 2 to 3 tablespoons or as required
  • Lemon juice - 1/2 lemon

Instructions

  1. Soak the chickpea and peanuts overnight in a large bowl.
  2. Drain the water and transfer it to a pressure cooker.
  3. Pour the water and salt. Cover it with the lid and take 3 to 4 whistles. Keep it aside.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, roasted bengal gram, urad dal, green chili, and curry leaves. Saute it well.
  5. Now, add boiled chickpea and peanut. Saute it well.
  6. Add turmeric powder, salt, and saute it on a medium flame.
  7. Add grated dry coconut and mix it well.
  8. Turn off the flame and add a dash of lemon and mix it well.
  9. Delicious Chickpea Sundal | Chana Sundal is ready to be served.
