Churmur Chaat – Kolkata Famous Street Food is a lip-smacking treat for everyone.

Churmur Chaat – Kolkata Famous Street Food is a tangy, spicy and little sweet chaat. This popular snack item is very quick and easy to prepare. This chaat is generally served in a ‘shalpata’ plate – plate made of leaves. You can find this chaat in every roadside ‘phuchkawala’s cart’ in Kolkata. This is a kind of famous chaat of Kolkata that has a potato, some crushed puchka/puri of panipuri/batasha/golgappa, some spices, tamarind and besan pakoda. Everyone loves to eat chaat right? So, here is a mouthwatering chaat recipe you can enjoy. Moreover, It does not require much time and preparation. It requires the ingredients which are easily available at home and it is very easy to assemble. So, try to make this at home and enjoy with your family.

This recipe was prepared under Live Cooking Contest ‘Zayka Premier League’ by a lovely mom from Kolkata – Shalini Dokania.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can adjust the spices as per your taste. Adding green chilli is completely optional.
  • It is recommended to mash the potatoes with hands.

Ingredients

  • Puchka/Panipuri/Batashe - 15
  • Boiled Potato - 2
  • Besan Pakoda - few soaked in jaggery water
  • Tamarind water - as per taste
  • Black salt - as per taste
  • Red Chilli powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Red Chilli powder-Coriander powder- Cumin Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon each
  • Lemon Juice - 1 Teaspoon
  • Gren Chilli - 1 finely chopped (optional)
  • Coriander leaves - 2 Tablespoon chopped

Instructions

  1. Soak the besan pakoda in jaggery water for about half an hour. Boil potato then mash it with hands.
  2. Dry roast coriander powder, cumin powder and red chilli powder together for 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Now, take a bowl. Add boiled mashed potato, besan pakoda along with jaggery water, black salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder-cumin powder-red chilli powder, lemon juice. Mix well.
  4. Crush the panipuri/puchka/golgappa and add to the bowl. Mix it.
  5. Add chopped green chilli and coriander leaves. Mix it.
  6. Mouthwatering 'Churmur Chaat - Kolkata Famous Street Food' is ready to be served. Serve immediately.
