Dabeli | Kachhi Dabeli | Kutch Famous Dabeli is a world-famous snack. 

Dabeli | Kachhi Dabeli | Kutch Famous Dabeli is a very popular street food across Gujarat and Maharashtra. The spicy potato filling stuffed in the pav to make this dish. This is spicy, tangy snack which is originated in the Kutch area of Gujarat. This is quite filling snack hence you can serve it as a light dinner or party snack. Moreover, it is quick and easy to prepare. The good thing is that the dabeli masala is also prepared at home. Because of the homemade masala, the flavour of the dabeli tastes twice better. It is aromatic as it uses freshly ground spices. So, try to make this snack with homemade masala and let us know your feedback.

This snack was prepared by Meera Bhavin Vyas – A lovely Mom who learnt it from her Mom who is from Kutch.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • This recipe uses Kashmiri Red Chilli which is not so spicy, you can always adjust the quantity of chillies according to your taste.
  • You can store the ground dabeli masala in the airtight container for months.

Ingredients

  • INGREDIENTS FOR DABELI MASALA:-
  • Dry Kashmiri Red Chilli - 4
  • Coriander Seeds - 50 Gram
  • Cumin Seeds - 50 Gram
  • Cinnamon Stick - 2
  • Cloves/Laung - 5 to 6
  • INGREDIENTS FOR RED GARLIC CHUTNEY:-
  • Dry Kashmiri Red Chilli - 4
  • Garlic - 5 to 6 cloves
  • Salt - as per taste
  • INGREDIENTS FOR DABELI:-
  • Pav - 4
  • Boiled Potato - 4 Medium sized
  • Sweet Tamarind Chutney - 1/4 Cup
  • Garlic Chutney - 1 Teaspoon
  • Tomato puree - puree of 1 medium sized tomato
  • Red Chilli powder - 1 Teaspoon (optional)
  • Dabeli Masala - 1 to 2 Teaspoon
  • Roasted Peanuts - a handful
  • Pomegranate Seeds - a handful or as required
  • Nylon Sev - as required
  • Grated Coconut - 2 Tablespoon
  • Finely chopped onion - as required
  • Coriander Leaves - a handful chopped
  • Oil - 1 to 1 & 1/2 Tablespoon
  • Butter - as required for roating dabeli
  • Salt - as per taste

Instructions

  1. PREPARING DABELI MASALA:- Take a pan and heat it. Then dry roast coriander seeds, cumin seeds, dry kashmiri red chillies, cinnamon sticks, cloves for couple of minutes on a medium flame. Then let them cool completely. Take a grinder jar and add roasted spices and little water to make smooth paste. Keep aside.
  2. PREPARING RED GARLIC CHUTNEY:- Take a grinder jar and add dry Kashmiri red chillies, garlic, salt. Add little water to make smooth paste. Keep aside.
  3. PREPARING THE STUFFING:- Heat oil in a pan. Then add sweet tamarind chutney. Saute it for few seconds.
  4. Then add red garlic chutney and tomato puree. Mix well and cook on a medium flame.
  5. Add red chilli powder, salt, dabeli masala. Mix well and cook for a minute or 2.
  6. PREPARING THE MASALA PEANUTS:- Dry roast the peanuts then let it cool. Remove the peels. Then add dry dabeli masala and little salt to it. Mix well.
  7. Finally add mashed boiled potato and mix well. Add half of the grated coconut. Mix well. Then switch off the gas. Spread the mixture on a plate. Top it with pomegranate seeds, remaining grated coconut, coriander leaves, sev and masala peanuts.
  8. PREPARING DABELI:-Take a pav and make a slit. Then spread little bit of red garlic chutney then potato mixture inside the pav and top it with chopped onion, masala peanuts and sev. Close the pav.
  9. Heat butter on a tawa or pan. Roast the dabeli n a medium flame for a minute from both the sides. Then take it out on a serving plate.
  10. Delicious 'Dabeli | Kachhi Dabeli | Kutch Famous Dabeli' is ready to be served.
