Falafel | Chickpea Tikki is a famous Middle-Eastern snack. 

Falafel | Chickpea Tikki is a popular snack and is delicious too. But in this recipe, the falafel is roasted on the pan (not fried) that makes it tasty as well as healthy. It is rich in protein, fibre along with some essential nutrients. You do not have to worry while eating the falafel now because this recipe uses very less oil. And the taste is similar to the original fried falafel only. You can easily make this famous dish at home within minutes. So, try to make this snack at home and enjoy with your loved ones.

This recipe was prepared under the live cooking contest ‘Zayka World Cup’ by Vimki Giria.

Tips and Suggestions by the Chef:-

  • You can deep fry the falafel too and bake as well. Bake the falafel at 180 degrees for about 8 minutes.
  • If you do not have parsley at home then you can use mint and coriander leaves only.
  • It can be roasted in any oil.
  • Adjust the quantity of green chilli according to your taste.

Ingredients

  • Chickpeas/Chhole - 200 Gram soaked and boiled
  • Onion - 1 medium sized finely chopped
  • Mixed Herbs (Coriander, mint and parsley) - 1/4 Cup finely chopped
  • Green Chilli - 1/2 Teaspoon or as per taste (finely chopped)
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Black pepper powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Roasted Cumin powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Olive oil - as required for roasting

Instructions

  1. Soak the chickpeas overnight. Then pressure cook it so that it gets mashed very easily.
  2. Now, take a bowl and add boiled chickpeas, chopped onion, mixed herbs (coriander leaves, mint leaves, parsley ), green chilli, salt, black pepper powder, roasted cumin powder. Mix well with hands so that each and every chickpea gets mashed.
  3. Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a tikki.
  4. Meanwhile, heat a pan. Grease it with olive oil.
  5. Roast the falafel on a medium heat from both the sides until it turn nice golden brown. Once done, take it out on a plate.
  6. Delicious 'Falafel | Chickpea Tikki' is ready to be served.
