Khichu | Kheech | Papadi No Lot is a delicious Gujarati breakfast and snack. 

Khichu | Kheech | Papadi No Lot is a very popular and lovable dish in Gujarat. To prepare this dish you just need rice flour, cumin seeds, coriander leaves. It has a nice flavour of garlic and jeera/cumin seeds. This is very simple and easy to prepare and it gets ready within minutes. You can serve it as a breakfast or evening snack to your family. Everyone will love this dish. So, try to make it at home and enjoy with your family and friends. Do share your feedback as well.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • It is recommended to use a heavy-bottomed pan to prepare this dish.
  • The ratio of rice flour and water should be proper 1:3.
  • For mixing the flour, a rolling pin/belan should be used. Mix the flour only after 90 % of water is absorbed else, lumps will form.
  • Either red chilli powder or achar masala can be sprinkled while serving the dish. Also it is recommended to serve it hot.
  • If steaming the mixture is not preferred, then it should be cooked in a pan for 1 to 2 minutes more.

Ingredients

  • Rice Flour/Chawal Ka aata - 1 Cup
  • Water - 3 Cups
  • Salt - to taste
  • Cumin/Jeera seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Coriander Leaves - a handful, chopped
  • Meetha Soda/Baking Soda - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Oil - 1/2 Teaspoon for serving
  • Red Chilli Powder - to taste

Instructions

  1. Take 3 cups of water in a large pan and add salt, cumin seeds, garlic paste, and coriander leaves. Let the ingredients boil.
  2. Once the water is boiled, add baking soda and rice flour. Let the water be absorbed. Then mix it using a rolling pin. It should be lump-free. Turn off the flame.
  3. Meanwhile, boil water in a steamer.
  4. Grease a sieve with oil. Put the cooked rice flour in it. Steam it for 5 to 7 minutes on a high flame. Once done, turn off the flame.
  5. Delicious 'Khichu | Kheech | Papadi No Lot' is ready to be served. Pour oil, sprinkle red chilli powder, and serve it hot.
