Kolhapuri Bhadang | Spicy Puffed Rice Chivda is a very delicious and chatpata snack.

Kolhapuri Bhadang | Spicy Puffed Rice Chivda is a popular snack of Kolhapur. It is made up of puffed rice (Murmura), along with peanut, roasted Bengal gram dal, and some spices.  It is made up of healthy ingredients. You can serve it at tea time or for your kids when they return from school. Moreover, this is quick and very simple to prepare. It is also a very good option for those who are looking for weight loss. So, try to make it at home and let us know your feedback.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • It can be stored for a week in an airtight container.
  • Red peanuts can also be used instead of peanuts.
  • Add crushed sugar only after the mixture is cooled down. Otherwise, sugar starts to melt.
  • You can also deep fry peanuts separately.

Ingredients

  • Murmura or Puffed Rice - 2 Cups
  • Peanuts - 1/2 Cup
  • Roasted Bengal Gram Dal/Daaliya Dal/Phutana Dal - 1/2 Cup
  • Dry Coconut flakes - 6 to 7 Pieces (1/2 inch each)
  • Garlic - 5 Cloves grated or crushed
  • Kashmiri Red Chilli powder - 2 Teaspoon
  • Oil - 1 Tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Curry Leaves or Kadipattha - 15- 20 Leaves
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 Teaspoon
  • Crushed Sugar - 1 Teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 Teaspoon or as per taste
  • INGREDIENTS FOR SERVING :-
  • Tomato - 1/2 tomato ( finely chopped)
  • Coriander Leaves - 2 to 3 Strand's Leaves (finely chopped)
  • Lemon Juice - 1/2 lemon
  • Onion - 1/2 Onion (finely chopped)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Add mustard seeds. Let it sputter.
  3. Add freshly crushed garlic, dry coconut pieces, curry leaves, peanuts and roasted Bengal gram dal. Saute it on a full flame for 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Then add turmeric powder, kashmiri red chilli powder, salt. Mix it and reduce gas flame to low.
  5. Add murmura or puffed rice. Roast it for 2 to 3 minutes. Then switch off the flame. Let it cool completely.
  6. Once it cools, add crushed sugar. Mix it well.
  7. SERVING SUGGESTIONS: You can serve it dry or can add chopped tomatoes, coriander leaves, lemon juice, and onion (optional).
  8. Delicious 'Kolhapuri Bhadang | Spicy Puffed Rice Chivda' is ready to be served.
