Masala Dal Vada | Chana Dal Vada is a very famous snack item.

Masala Dal Vada | Chana Dal Vada is a deep-fried fritter of Bengal gram. This is a very popular snack in South India that goes well with coconut chutney. It is the most lovable snack but it tastes amazing with hot ginger tea when it’s raining. This vada is a flavourful snack with some crunch of onions and chana dal/bengal gram. This does not require much time and efforts. So, try this quick and easy recipe at your end and enjoy the rainy season with your loved ones.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can add spices according to your choice and taste.
  • If you add more onion then the vada can break while frying.
  • Fry the vada in the hot oil. First heat the oil then fry the vada on a low-medium flame.

Ingredients

  • Chana Dal/Bengal Gram - 3/4 Cup
  • Onion - 4 to 5 medium sized finely chopped
  • Coriander Leaves - a handful
  • Curry Leaves - 1/2 Cup roughly chopped
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
  • Green Chili - 2 to 3 or as per taste
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - for frying

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the chana dal for 3 to 4 hours. Then drain the water completely. Keep 3 tablespoon soaked dal aside.
  2. Grind the remaining dal coarsely. Then transfer to the bowl.
  3. Add soaked dal(that we kept aside), finely chopped onion, coriander leaves, grated ginger, chopped green chilli, curry leaves and salt. Mix all together well.
  4. Meanwhile, heat oil for frying.
  5. Once the oil is hot, make small vada with hands and fry them on a low to medium flame.
  6. When the vada turns nice golden brown, take them out on a tissue paper.
  7. Delicious 'Masala Dal Vada | Chana Dal Vada' is ready to be served.
