Poha Suji Uthappam & Appe is an instant breakfast dish. Adding fresh vegetables makes it a healthy and stomach-filling dish. Idli & Dosa are the famous and most savored South Indian breakfast dishes. Besides these, Uthappam & Appe are also many peoples’ liking. In a lot of Indian households, the leftover idli batter takes the shape of Uthappam and Appe. Ingredients

  • Poha/Beaten Rice/Flattened rice - 2 cups
  • Suji/Semolina - 2 cups
  • Dahi/Curd - 2 cups
  • Gajar/Carrot - 1/4 cup
  • Shimla Mirchi/Capsicum - 1/4 cup
  • Hare Matar/Green peas - 1/4 cup
  • Pyaz/Onion - 1/4 cup
  • Dhania ke patte/Coriander leaves - 1/4 cup
  • Hari Mirchi/Green Chili - 1 tablespoon chopped
  • Adrak/Ginger - 1 tablespoon chopped
  • Jeera/Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Red Chili flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • Baking soda - 1 pinch
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil - 1/4 cup
  • Water as per requirement

Instructions

  1. Soak poha and suji separately in 1 cup of curd. Keep it aside for 30 minutes.
  2. After 30 minutes, mix the poha and suji in a bowl. Put chopped carrots, capsicum, peas, onions and coriander leaves.
  3. Add chopped green chilli, ginger, cumin seeds, red chilli flakes, baking soda and salt as per taste.
  4. Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Adjust pouring consistency by adding water.
  5. Place the tawa on medium flame and apply oil. Once hot, pour batter in circular shape to make Uthappams (pan cakes).
  6. Roast both sides to golden brown.
  7. For making appe, place the appe pan on medium flame, pour the batter, cover and allow to cook and roast.
  8. Flip the side and allow it cook and turn slight brown in color. Take out in a serving plate.
  9. Serve the Poha Suji Uthappam & Appe with Palli chutney or Ginger chutney.
