Rava Idli | Instant Rava Idli

This Instant Rava Idli was prepared by Archana Chakravarthy – a lovely Mom from Karnataka. 

Rava Idli | Instant Rava Idli is a delicious and instant breakfast option.

World Idli Day is celebrated on March 30th every year and Idlis are the healthiest and yummiest breakfast option! Each idli has 50-75 calories and is filling in nature, so it’s a very good option for weight loss too!  Did you know that Rava Idli was invented during World War II by @mtr_foods  as there was a shortage of rice. They tried Rava or Semolina in place of that and now Rava Idli has become the most popular breakfast option in Southern India because it is tasty, quick to make and super fluffy. And as per Archana add a spoon of ghee and it will turn out to be super yummy 🙂 It will just melt in your mouth:)

Rava Idli | Instant Rava Idli is a quick and easy breakfast. This is an ideal breakfast for a busy morning which does not need any type of grinding or fermentation. This is a healthy breakfast for your family and you can serve it in the tiffin too. These are very spongy and soft idli goes well with any type of chutney or pickle. This recipe uses very less oil that makes it very healthy. Rava idli or Suji Idli is a very popular breakfast in all over India because it is very quick and instant recipe without any hassle. So, try to make this delicious idli at home and enjoy with your family.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can use any vegetables of your choice or you can avoid adding vegetables. It is completely optional.
  • Add a very little salt if you are adding veggies to the batter.
  • It is recommended to use only sour curd to make the idlis.
  • Serve it with ghee and Onion Tomato Chutney

Ingredients

  • MTR Rava Idli Mix - 1 Cup
  • Sour Curd - 1 & 1/2 Cup
  • Coriander leaves - a handful chopped
  • Grated Carrot - 2 to 3 Tablespoon
  • Fried Cashew nuts - as required
  • Salt - less than 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Oil - as required for greasing the mould
  • Ghee/Clarified butter - as required for serving

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl, rava Idli mix. Add 1/2 cups of curd along with chopped coriander leaves, grated carrot and fried cashew nuts, little salt and mix well.(keep coriander leaves, grated carrot, cashew nuts for garnishing)
  2. Rest the batter for 2 minutes then add 1 cup of curd. Mix well.
  3. Meanwhile, boil water in the steamer or pressure cooker.
  4. Grease the idli moulds with oil.
  5. Add some cashew nuts and coriander leaves at the bottom and then pour the idli batter. Garnish it with some more coriander leaves, grated carrot and cashew nuts.
  6. Steam the idli for about 12 minutes on a medium flame.
  7. Once done, check with a knife. If it comes out clean then it is ready or else cook for couple of minutes.
  8. De-mould the idli. Transfer to a plate. Top it with ghee/clarified butter.
  9. Yummy 'Rava Idli | Instant Rava Idli' is ready to be served with tomato onion chutney or any type of chutney. Don't forget to add a dollop of ghee on the idlis.
