Sambar Powder | Homemade Sambar Masala is an integral part of south indian households.

Sambar Powder | Homemade Sambar Masala is very simple and easy to prepare. You just require some whole spices to prepare the masala. It is an aromatic and flavourful spice. This makes the sambar more flavourful and delicious. This gives a nice flavor to the sambar. You can prepare and store the masala for a longer time. So, try to make this masala at home and do share your feedback as well.

This masala was prepared by Archana Chakravarthy – a lovely Mom from Karnataka.

Ingredients

  • Coriander Seeds - 1 Cup
  • Dry Red Chillies - 1 Cup
  • Chana Dal/Bengal Gram - 1 Cup
  • Urad Dal/Black Gram without skin - 1/3 Cup
  • Methi Dana/Fenugreek Seeds - 1/3 Cup
  • Jeera/Cumin seeds - 1/3 Cup
  • Curry Leaves - 1/2 Cup
  • Hing/Asafoetida - 1 Teaspoon
  • Ghee/Clarified butter - 1 Teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Heat ghee in a pan.
  2. Add dry red chillies, coriander seeds, and chana dal/Bengal gram. Roast on a low flame.
  3. Add urad dal/black gram without skin, fenugreek seeds, and cumin seeds. Mix well and saute.
  4. Add curry leaves, mix well and roast all the ingredients for 3 to 4 minutes or until it is aromatic . Then, turn off the flame and let it cool completely.
  5. Then, grind it to a fine powder. Keep the masala in an air tight container.
  6. 'Sambar Powder | Homemade Sambar Masala' is ready to be served.
