Akki Roti | Chawal Ki Roti is a delicious dish from Karnataka.

Akki Roti | Chawal Ki Roti is a very popular roti. As the name suggests Akki roti – akki mans rice. This uses lots of vegetables like fenugreek leaves, carrot, onion, radish and fresh coconut. This is crispy and a delicious roti that you can have with any type of chutney. You can serve this roti for breakfast or lunch or dinner. This is a gluten-free dish hence anyone can enjoy. So, try to make this roti at home and so share your feedback as well.

Tips and Suggestion by Mom Chef:-

  • You can use leafy vegetables like palak/spinach, dill leaves to different variations.
  • Add very little water to knead the dough.
  • Spread the dough on tawa then heat it. If you want to make second roti then spread the dough on a butter paper or foil or plastic sheet then cook it on tawa.
  • Serve this roti with coconut chutney or peanut chutney.

Ingredients

  • Chawal ka aata/rice flour - 1/2 cup or use as required
  • Fenugreek leaves - 1/2 cup chopped
  • Onion - 2 tablespoon chopped (optional)
  • Grated radish/mooli - 2 tablespoon
  • Grated carrot - 2 tablespoon
  • Grated fresh coconut - 1 to 2 tablespoon
  • Asafoetida/hing - a pinch
  • Dry red chilli - 2 chopped
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - as required

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl and add chopped fenugreek leaves, onion, grated radish, carrot, fresh coconut, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dry red chillies, salt and mix well.
  2. Then add rice flour and mix well. Sprinkle little water to make dough.
  3. Now, take a tawa. Grease it with oil.
  4. Spread the dough with hands on tawa. Wet your hands with water to spread the dough evenly. Make holes in the centre of roti.
  5. Heat the tawa on high flame. Pour some oil in the holes and on sides. Cover and cook it for 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Once it is cooked from one side, flip it and cook from another side for 2 to 3 minutes. Once cooked, take it out on a plate.
  7. Delicious 'Akki Roti | Chawal Ki Roti' is ready to be served with any type of chutney.
