Aloo Matar | Aloo Matter is a lip-smacking curry for everyone.

Aloo Matar | Aloo Matter is curry which does not use onion and garlic. This is very quick and easy to prepare with easily available ingredients. The potato and peas are cooked with tomato-based gravy with some basic spices. This tastes delicious with paratha, roti, puri and even with rice. Make and serve this sabji for lunch and dinner, everyone will enjoy eating this sabji. This has a nice aroma of which comes from spices like kasuri methi/dry fenugreek leaves. It is very quick and easy to make. This is a good option when you do not have any other vegetables at home or when you want something different to eat. So, try to make this sabji at home and let us know your feedback.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can add onion and garlic if you want. Make paste along with tomato and ginger.
  • Add spices according to your taste.
  • You can adjust the consistency of the gravy according to your taste. Or you can make a dry version of the sabji as well. To make dry sabji do not add water to it.

Ingredients

  • Boiled Potato - 4 medium sized
  • Green Peas - 1/2 Cup boiled
  • Tomato puree - puree of 3 medium sized tomato
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
  • Coriander leaves - as required
  • Curry Leaves - few chopped
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Cumin seeds - 1 Teaspoon
  • Mustard Seeds/Rai - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Hing/Asafoetida - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Kasuri Methi/Dry Fenugreek Leaves - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Garam Masala/All spice mix - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - 1 Tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Make puree of tomatoes along with ginger.
  2. Take a pan, add oil and heat it.
  3. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida. Let the seeds crackle.
  4. Add tomato puree and mix well. Cook it on a medium-high heat. Add boiled green peas as well and cook.
  5. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder. Mix well and cook until the oil leaves from the sides.
  6. Now, add curry leaves and whole green chilli, kasuri methi/dry fenugreek leaves. Mix well and cook.
  7. Add diced boiled potato. Mix well and cook it for few seconds. Then add 1 to 2 cups water and mix well.
  8. Add garam masala, salt to it. Mix well and bring it to boil.
  9. Once boiled, cover and cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Then switch off the gas. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  10. Delicious 'Aloo Matar | Aloo Matter' is ready to to be served.
