Hing Jeera Dal Tadka is a delicious side dish for your meals. 

Hing Jeera Dal Tadka is a very simple but appetizing dal tadka. This has a nice flavour of cumin/jeera, hing/asafoetida and some spices. This does not need onion, garlic and tomato. It gets ready within minutes as well. You just need boiled dal to prepare this dal tadka. It tastes amazing with hot rice. Everyone will love this dal for lunch and dinner. So, try to make it at home and enjoy with your family and friends.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • Add ghee to the dal while cooking it gives a nice flavour.
  • Let the dal boil then only close the lid of the pressure cooker. This will prevent the spillage of dal.

Ingredients

  • Toor Dal/Arhar Dal/Pigeon Peas - 1/2 Cup
  • Green Chilli - 1 + 1
  • Ginger - 1/2 + 1/2 inch piece
  • Jeera/Cumin seeds - 1 Teaspoon
  • Hing/Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Coriander Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Roasted Cumin powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Garam Masala/All Spice Mix - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves - a handful chopped
  • Ghee/Clarified Butter - 2 Teaspoon + 1 Teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the pigeon peas for 10 minutes. Then pressure cook it with water, 1 green chilli, grated 1/2 inch piece ginger, salt, turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon ghee/clarified butter. Cook for 3 to 4 whistles. Then let it cool.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan.
  3. Add asafoetida and cumin seeds. Let the seeds crackle.
  4. Add grated ginger and green chilli. Saute for few seconds.
  5. Add coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, red chilli powder. Mix well and add little water so that masala will not burn. Cook until it leaves ghee from sides.
  6. Add cooked dal and water. Mix well and let it boil. Add chopped coriander leaves. Once boiled, switch off the flame.
  7. Delicious '' is ready to be served.
