Onion Paratha is a delicious recipe.

Onion Paratha is a perfect breakfast dish. The main ingredients are whole wheat flour, onion and coriander leaves. It becomes spicy and tangy with the addition of ginger-green chili paste and carom seeds. Anar dana powder imparts it a tangy flavour. Roasting the paratha with ghee makes it crispy and healthy. Tips and suggestions by the Mom Chef:-

  • Put the dry mango powder instead of pomegrenate seeds/anar dana powder in the paratha mixture.
  • In place of ginger-green chili paste, you can add grated ginger and green chili.

Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour/Gehun atta - 1 cup
  • Gram flour/Besan - 1 tablespoon (optional)
  • Onion/Pyaz - 1/2 no finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves - chopped as required
  • Salt - to taste
  • Hing powder/Asafoetida powder - a pinch
  • Carom seeds/Ajwain - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dry Fenugreek leaves/Kasuri Methi - as required
  • Pomegranate seeds powder/Anar dana powder - to taste
  • Ginger-Gren chili psate/Adrak-Hari mirch paste - 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon
  • Clarified butter/Ghee - as required
  • Water - as required
  • Oil - as required

Instructions

  1. In a kneading container, put the whole wheat flour, gram flour, then add finely chopped onion and coriander leaves, salt and asafoetida powder.
  2. Now, crush the carom seeds in the palms and then put. Put the dry fenugreek leaves, pomegranate seeds powder, ginger-green chili paste and 1 teaspoon clarified butter/ghee. Mix with hands.
  3. Add water in small quantity and knead the dough to medium consistency. Apply some oil over the dough and knead again.
  4. Take a small to medium size portion of the dough. With the rolling pin, make a paratha with light pressure. You can make the paratha either thick or thin in size.
  5. Place the paratha on hot tawa, roast from one side, flip and roast from the other side on medium flame. Apply ghee on one side, flip and apply ghee on the other side.
  6. Press the paratha with the spatula and cook. Flip, press with spatula and cook from the other side on medium flame. Serve with tea or pickle.
  7. The Onion Paratha is ready to be served.
