Palak Moong Dal Sabji In South Indian Style is a very simple, quick, and easy dish. It is a healthy way to get both greens and proteins in a dish. It is made dry and the moong dal is cooked soft but not mushy. Though it is a no onion no garlic recipes still it tastes amazing and reduces the effort of preparation too. Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-
  • The spinach should not be overcooked.
  • Dry grated coconut can also be used if fresh coconut is not available.
  • The spinach should be washed properly before it is used.
  • It is recommended to add less salt to the green leafy veggies.
  • Pepper powder should be added to avoid germs or pests if present in the veggies.
  • To check the moong dal soaked properly, you can use your fingers to break it. If it is easily broken, then it is ready to use.

Ingredients

  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Urad dal/ Split and husked black gram - 1 teaspoon
  • Rai/ Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Haldi powder/ Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Hing/ Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Hari mirch/ Green chili - 1 slit
  • Spinach/ Palak - 1 bowl finely chopped
  • Namak/ Salt - as required
  • Kali mirch powder/ Pepper powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Moong dal/ Split and husked yellow lentils - 1 cup
  • Grated Fresh Nariyal/ Coconut - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Soak moong dal for an hour and keep it aside.
  2. Wash spinach properly and keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add urad dal, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, hing, and green chili, and sauté the ingredients well.
  4. Now, add spinach and sauté it on a medium flame.
  5. Add salt and pepper powder. Then sauté it and allow it to cook for a minute.
  6. Further, add soaked moong dal and allow it to cook for a minute.
  7. Add freshly grated coconut, sauté it well a few seconds, and then turn off the gas.
  8. Delicious ‘Palak Moong Dal Sabji In South Indian Style’ is ready to be served.
