Paneer Masala | Dhaba Style Paneer Masala is a mouthwatering curry goes well with naan, roti or paratha. This is a rich and delicious preparation of paneer/cottage cheese. You can easily prepare this famous curry at home by following this simple recipe. You should give a try to this gravy you will love this. This looks so tempting, you can’t resist yourself from eating this curry. You can prepare this curry for ay party or get together or for weekends to relish with your family. Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • Make this curry using homemade paneer.
  • You can use either butter or ghee or combination of both to prepare the gravy.
  • If you do not have thick curd then hang the curd in the muslin cloth to remove excess water.
  • Dry roast the besan/gram flour on a low flame only else it may burn. Besan will thicken the gravy so do add it.
  • Shallow fried paneer enhances the flavour of the curry. If you want you can avoid this step as well.

Ingredients

  • INGREDIENST FOR MARINATION OF PANEER:-
  • Paneer/Cottage Cheese Cubes - 200 gram
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Ghee/Clarified Butter - 1 Tablespoon for shallow frying
  • INGREDIENTS FOR THE GRAVY:-
  • Onion - 1 big sized finely chopped
  • Tomato - 4 pureed
  • Besan/Gram flour - 1 Tablespoon
  • Thick Curd - 1/4 Cup
  • Cumin seeds - 1 Teaspoon
  • Bay Leaf - 1
  • Cinnamon - 1 small stick
  • Green cardamom/elaichi - 2
  • Cloves/Laung - 2 to 3
  • Kashmiri dry red chilli - 2
  • Garlic - 4 to 5 cloves grated
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece grated
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Red Chilli powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Roasted Cumin/Jeera Powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Coriander Powder - 1 Teaspoon
  • Garam Masala/All spice mix - 1 Teaspoon
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Kasuri Methi/Dry Fenugreek Leaves - 1 Teaspoon
  • Butter - 1 Tablespoon
  • Ghee/Clarified butter - 2 Tablespoon
  • Coriander Leaves - as required for garnishing
  • Green Chilli - 1 for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Dry Roast the gram flour on a low flame for 5 minutes or until it starts turning brownish. Keep aside.
  2. Take a bowl and add paneer cubes, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt. Coat all the paneer pieces. Keep aside for 5 minutes.
  3. Now, take and pan, add ghee and butter. Heat it.
  4. Add cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, green cardamom. Saute it. Then add Kashmiri dry red chillies.
  5. Add finely chopped onion and saute on a medium flame.
  6. Add grated ginger and garlic. Mix well and saute until onion turns light brown.
  7. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala. Mix well and saute for few seconds.
  8. Lower the flame and add roasted gram flour. Mix well.
  9. Add tomato puree and mix well. Cook it on a high flame.
  10. Add thick curd on a low flame. Mix well. Then add 1/2 glass water, mix well and let it boil.
  11. Add salt, mix well. Cover and cook for 5 to 7 minutes. Do check in between.
  12. Meanwhile, heat ghee in another pan. Add marinated paneer cubes. Shallow fry the paneer for 2 to 3 minutes. Then switch off the flame.
  13. Crush the kasuri methi and add to the gravy. Mix well.
  14. Add shallow fried paneer to the gravy. Mix well. Cover and cook for a minute on a low flame. Then switch off the flame.
  15. Delicious 'Paneer Masala | Dhaba Style Paneer Masala' is ready to be served. Garnish it coriander leaves, slit green chilli and serve hot with roti or naan or tandoori roti.
