Pitla | Maharashtrian Pithla | Zunka is a very popular sabzi from Maharashtrian cuisine.

Pitla | Maharashtrian Pithla | Zunka is a quick and easy to prepare side dish for your meals. This goes well with bhakri, roti, paratha, jwar roti. This is no onion- no garlic recipe hence anyone can enjoy this dish. Moreover, it is super quick to make with fewer ingredients. You just require gram flour/besan, green chilli, peanuts and 5 minutes of cooking. Peanuts add flavour to the dish that takes the dish to the next level. This is a perfect option when you do not have any green veggie or when you don’t have much time to cook. So, try to make this sabji at your home and enjoy with your loved ones.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can add onion and garlic if you want. Add both the ingredients while sauteing the green chilli.
  • If you adding onion then reduce the quantity of peanuts or vice a Versa.

Ingredients

  • Gram Flour/Besan - 3 Tablespoon
  • Water - 1/4 to 1/2 Cup
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Roasted Peanuts - 2 Teaspoon Crushed
  • Green Chilli - 3 to 4
  • Curry Leaves - few
  • Coriander Leaves - a handful
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - 1 to 2 Tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Take a bowl and add gram flour, 1/4 cup water. Mix well to make smooth mixture.
  2. Heat oil in a pan or kadai.
  3. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let the seeds crackle.
  4. Add chopped green chilli. Saute it for few seconds. Then add crushed roasted peanuts, mix well and saute for few seconds. Then add curry leaves.
  5. Add the gram flour mixture and little water. Mix well and stir the mixture well. Cook it on a low flame by covering with a lid.
  6. Once the mixture gets thicken, switch off the gas. It will not stick while eating, this is the sign that the sabji is perfectly cooked. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  7. Delicious 'Pitla | Maharashtrian Pithla | Zunka' is ready to be served.
