Pyaz Ki Chutney | Onion Chutney is a very popular and delicious chutney.

Pyaz Ki Chutney | Onion Chutney is a lip-smacking chutney from South Indian Cuisine. This tastes amazing with dosa, idli or even with regular meals. It is quick and easy to prepare with easily available ingredients. This is spicy, tangy chutney with a nice flavour of onion and coconut. This is a famous and most lovable chutney in South India. Every household prepares this chutney on a regular basis. You can serve it with breakfast or lunch or dinner. It tastes delicious with every meal. So, try to make this chutney at home and enjoy with your family and friends.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • You can adjust the spiciness according to your taste.
  • Add daaliya dal/Futana/roasted Bengal gram instead of coconut.
  • Adding sugar balances the flavour of the chutney, so do add it.

Ingredients

  • Pyaaz/ Onion - 2 medium sized
  • Jeera/ Cumin seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Sabut dhaniya/ Whole Coriander seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Hing/ Asafoetida - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Haldi powder/ Turmeric powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Sukha Laal mirch/ Dry red chillies - 3 to 4
  • Namak/ Salt - as per taste
  • Fresh Nariyal/ Coconut - 2 Tablespoon chopped
  • Cheeni/ Sugar - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Imli/ Tamarind - as per taste
  • Tel/ Oil - 1 Tablespoon
  • FOR TADKA:-
  • Tel/ Oil - 1 Teaspoon
  • Urad Dal/ Black Gram without skin - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Sarson/ Mustard seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Haldi powder/ Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Hing/ Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Curry patta/ Curry leaves - few

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan.
  2. Add cumin seeds, coriander seeds, asafoetida, turmeric powder, and dry red chillies. Sauté for few a seconds.
  3. Then add chopped onion and sauté it. Add tamarind and mix well. Cook the onion for a minute. Add salt and mix well while cooking. Then turn off the flame and let it cool completely.
  4. Grind cooked onion mixture, chopped fresh coconut, and sugar in a grinder jar to make paste. Add a little water while grinding. Then transfer the chutney to the bowl.
  5. PREPARING THE TADKA:
  6. Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a tadka pan.
  7. Add urad dal/black gram without skin, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Turn off the flame. Pour this tadka on the chutney.
  8. Delicious 'Pyaz Ki Chutney | Onion Chutney' is ready to be served.
