Red Chutney | Tomato Onion Chutney is a delicious side dish.

Red Chutney | Tomato Onion Chutney is a finger-licking chutney goes well with dosa, adai, idli, vada. This requires tomato, onion, ginger and green chilli. This is a very easy and quick recipe. While preparing any dish, you can make this chutney side by side. You can have it either for breakfast or brunch or lunch. This is perfect for any dish and any type of menu. So, try to make instant chutney at home and let us know how was it.

This yummy chutney was prepared by Lakshmi Ishwar – a lovely Mom from Karnataka.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • Serve this chutney with Adai | Adai Dosa or any South Indian variety.
  • You can adjust the quantity of green chilli as per your taste.
  • The ratio of tomato and onion should be 3:1. Means take 3 tomatoes for 1 onion.

Ingredients

  • Tomato - 3 roughly chopped
  • Onion - 1 chopped
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece chopped
  • Green chilli - 2 to 3 or as per taste
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - 2 Teaspoon
  • INGREDIENTS FOR TADKA:-
  • Oil - 1 Teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 Teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Take a kadai or a pan. Add oil and heat it.
  2. Add chopped ginger, green chilli and onion. Saute it on a medium flame until onion turns translucent.
  3. Then add chopped tomato. Mix well. Add salt and mix well.
  4. Cover and cook until tomato gets softened and mushy. Then switch off the gas and let it cool.
  5. Grind the mixture to make a smooth chutney. Transfer to a bowl.
  6. Now, prepare the tadka. Heat a tadka pan. Add oil. Then add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
  7. Pour this tadka over chutney.
  8. Delicious 'Red Chutney | Tomato Onion Chutney' is ready to be served.
