Sabut Moong Dal | Whole Green Moong Dal is a mouthwatering dal for everyone. 

Sabut Moong Dal | Whole Green Moong Dal is quick and easy to prepare. This does not require any type of veggies like onion, garlic and tomato. If you do not have any green veggie then this is a perfect option. This goes well with rice and roti to make a complete meal. Serve it for lunch or dinner. This has a little sweet and tangy taste which is amazing. Everyone will love this dish. So, try to make this dal at home and enjoy with your loved ones. Do share your feedback as well.

Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • If you have time then soak the whole moong/green gram for 2 hours then pressure cook for 5 whistles. Else, pressure cook the whole moong/green gram directly for 7 to 8 whistles.
  • Adjust the consistency of dal according to your taste.
  • Jaggery and lemon add a nice flavour to the dal. So, do try this combination.

Ingredients

  • Sabut Moong Dal/Whole Green Gram - 1 Cup
  • Water - 2 Cup
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch piece grated
  • Dry Red Chilli - 2
  • Curry Leaves - few
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Red Chilli powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Coriander Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Garam Masala/All spice mix - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Gud/Jaggery - 1/2 Tablespoon or as per taste
  • Lemon - 1/2
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - 1 to 2 Teaspoon
  • Coriander Leaves - as required

Instructions

  1. Soak the whole green gram/sabut moong dal for 1 hour if you have time. Then pressure cook it with 2 cups of water, little salt on a high flame for 5 whistles.
  2. If you do not have time to soak the whole green gram then pressure cook in on high flame with 2 cups of water, little salt for 7 to 8 whistles. Once done, let it cool completely.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, grated ginger, curry leaves, dry red chillies. Saute for few seconds.
  5. Then add boiled whole green gram with its water.
  6. Add salt, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and mix well.
  7. Add jaggery and lemon juice. Mix well. Let it boil for 2 minutes. Add garam masala and mix well. Garnish it with coriander leaves then switch off the flame.
  8. Delicious 'Sabut Moong Dal | Whole Green Moong Dal' is ready to be served.
