South Indian Style Cabbage Pakoda | Cabbage Pakoda is a popular and lip-smacking snack.

South Indian Style Cabbage Pakoda | Cabbage Pakoda is a mouth-watering deep-fried fritters recipe prepared from shredded cabbage mixed with besan, rice flour, and other spices. It can be served as a party starters/appetizer or simply can be used for evening snacks with masala chai. The method for preparing pakoda is usually the same but the main ingredients differ according to the taste. The texture and taste are completely different from the regular pakodas. Serve these golden crisp cabbage fritters with green chutney or mint chutney or tomato ketchup. Tips and Suggestions by Mom Chef:-

  • Use fresh and tender cabbage.
  • Cabbage leaves moisture after mixing so use little water otherwise, the batter will become thin.
  • Add rice flour and besan little by little to avoid lumps.
  • You can also use cornflour or sooji for binding.
  • Heat the oil properly before frying and fry the pakoda on medium flame.
  • Adjust the spices and serve it hot for the better taste.

Ingredients

  • Patta gobhi/ Cabbage - 1 bowl finely shreded
  • Namak/ Salt - as required
  • Laal mirch powder/ Red chili powder - as required
  • Jeera/ Cumin seeds - 2 teaspoons
  • Asafoetida/ Hing - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Rice flour - as required
  • Besan/ Gram flour - 1/2 bowl or as required
  • Water - as required
  • Oil - as required for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, add cabbage, salt, and red chilli powder, and mix them properly.
  2. Now, add cumin seeds, hing, and rice flour, and mix them.
  3. Add besan and water little by little and mix them properly. Keep the consistency very thick.
  4. Heat oil in a pan. Take the small ball-sized dough and drop it into the hot oil.
  5. Deep fry it on a medium flame and stir it occasionally until it is golden brown and crisp.
  6. Transfer it to a paper towel or tissue.
