Suji Bites | Sooji Poha Bites are delicious healthy appetizer.

Suji Bites | Sooji Poha Bites are instant snacks made with suji, poha, Curd, lauki, and some spices. You can prepare it with easily available ingredients. It is an ideal party starter or can be served as an evening snack which can be served with a cup of tea or coffee. You can make these bites without any planning, any time you want. These bites taste amazing with tadka and sambar powder. So, try to make this recipe in your kitchen and share your valuable feedback with us.

Tips and Suggestions by a Mom Chef:

  • Use fine semolina to prepare this dish.
  • If fine semolina is not available, then coarse grind the semolina to make it fine.
  • If you want you can add soaked poha as well.
  • You can prepare the suji bites in desired shape and size.
  • The bites should be put in the steamer for steaming only after the water boils.
  • You can add podi masala, peri-peri masala or any masala instead of sambar masala.
  • FOR PREPARING SUJI BITES IN A PAN :
  • Boil water in a pan. Put a big, heightened ring/bowl. Then put a greased plate on it.
  • Now arrange all the suji bites on it. Then cover that pan. Steam the bites for 10 to 12 minutes on medium flame.

Ingredients

  • Semolina / Sooji / Rava - 1 Cup
  • Curd / Dahi - 1 Cup
  • Flattened Rice / Poha - 1 Cup
  • Bottle Gourd / Lauki - 1 Cup grated
  • Salt - As per taste
  • Ginger / Adrak - 1 Inch grated
  • Red Chilli Flakes - 1 tsp
  • Sesame Seeds / Til - 1 tsp
  • Water - As required
  • Oil - For greasing
  • FOR TADKA :
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds / Rai - 1/2 tsp
  • Sesame Seeds / Til - 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli / Hari Mirchi - 1 to 2 Finely chopped + 2
  • Ginger / Adrak - 1 Inch grated
  • Curry Leaves / Curry Patta - A few
  • Sambar Masala - 1 to 2 tsp
  • Coriander Leaves / Hara Dhaniya - A handful
  • tsp = teaspoon
  • tbsp = tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Take semolina in a mixing bowl. Add curd, poha, bottle gourd, salt, red chilli flakes, ginger, and sesame seeds. Mix well and prepare a soft dough-like mixture.
  2. Add a little water to adjust the consistency. Keep it aside and let it rest for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Grease your palms with the oil. Take a small ball sized mixture and make a flattened ball of the mixture. Likewise, prepare all bites from the mixture.
  4. Grease the steam mold with oil. Arrange all the prepared bites on the steam tray.
  5. Heat water in a steamer. The bites should be put in the steamer for steaming only after the water boils. Place the steam tray in the steamer. Steam it on a medium flame for 10 to 12 minutes.
  6. Once done, turn off the flame and take out the steam tray. Let it cool down.
  7. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, sesame seeds, green chilli, ginger, curry leaves, and whole green chilli. Mix well.
  8. Then add the steamed suji bites and mix well. Now add sambar powder and coriander leaves. Mix well.
  9. Once done, turn off the flame. Take it out on a serving plate.
  10. 'Suji Bites | Sooji Poha Bites' are ready to be served.
