Surprise Bread a delectable breakfast and snack item. 

Surprise Bread is innovative and a delicious dish. As the name suggests the bread it stuffed between the idli batter and spicy potato masala. This is quick and easy to prepare with easily available ingredients. Now, you can enjoy the open aloo sandwich and idli together in the one dish. This is so appealing that you can not resist yourself from eating this dish. This is a very filling and healthy dish. Hence, this can be a good tiffin snack for kids or for breakfast as well as an evening tea-time snack for everyone. So, try to make this dish at home and get appreciated by everyone.

Ingredients

  • Bread - 4 slices
  • Oil - as required for shallow frying
  • FOR STUFFING:-
  • Boiled potato - 2, mashed
  • Onion - 2 Tablespoon, finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves - a handful, chopped
  • Ginger - a ½ inch piece grated
  • Green chilli - 1, finely chopped
  • Tricolour Capsicum - 2 Tbs
  • Salt - to taste
  • Red Chilli Powde/Lal Mirch Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Turmeric/Haldi powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Cumin/Jeera powder - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Black salt - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • FOR IDLI BATTER:-
  • Sooji/Semolina - 1/2 cup
  • Dahi/Curd - 2 Tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • FOR TADKA:-
  • Oil - 1 Teaspoon
  • Rai/Mustard seeds - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Til/Sesame seeds - 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Hari Mirch/Green Chilli - 1 chopped
  • Curry leaves - a few chopped

Instructions

  1. PREPARING IDLI BATTER :
  2. Add semolina, curd, and salt in a bowl. Mix well. Add a little water to make a thick batter. Keep it aside to rest for 10 minutes.
  3. PREPARING POTATO STUFFING:
  4. Add mashed boiled potato, chopped onion, grated ginger, chopped green chilli, coriander leaves, tricolour capsicum, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and black salt in a bowl. Mix well.
  5. PREPARING SURPRISE BREAD:
  6. Take bread slices and cut each of them into round shape. You can use either a cutter or a katori to cut the slices.
  7. THE FINAL PREPARATION:
  8. Heat a little oil for shallow frying.
  9. On one side of the bread, apply the potato mixture. Put the potato side down in the pan. Then spread the idli mixture on the top. Cover it with a lid and let it cook on a low flame for about 7 to 8 minutes. Once done, take it out on a serving plate.
  10. PREPARING THE TADKA:- Take a tadka pan, add oil and heat it. Add mustard seeds, and sesame seeds and let them splutter. Then add green chilli and curry leaves. Sauté for a few seconds and then switch off the gas. Pour this tadka on the idli side of the surprise bread.
  11. Delicious 'Surprise Bread' is ready to be served.
