Ingredients

  • INGREDIENTS FOR TOMATO CHUTNEY:-
  • Tomato - 3 diced
  • Onion - 1 diced
  • Garlic - 4 cloves
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Dry Red chilli - 1
  • Mustard seed - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Urad dal/Black gram without skin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves - 4
  • Asafoetida/hing - a pinch
  • Salt - to taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala/All spice mix - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • INGREDIENTS FOR UTTAPAM:-
  • Dosa Batter - as required
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black Pepper powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil - 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. PREPARING TOMATO CHUTNEY:- In a pan add oil, and heat it. Add mustard seed, urad dal/black gram without skin. Let them splutter.
  2. Then add asafoetida, garlic. Saute for few seconds.
  3. Add chopped onion and saute until they are translucent.
  4. Add tomatoes and salt. let them cook until tomatoes turn soft.
  5. Add dry red chilli, turmeric powder, garam masala. Mix well and cook for a few seconds then turn off the flame. Let it cool completely. Then grind to make smooth chutney.
  6. Tomato chutney is ready
  7. PREPARING THE UTTAPAM:- Take a bowl and add dosa batter and little water to adjust the consistency.
  8. Meanwhile, heat a tawa.
  9. Once the tawa is hot, pour the batter and spread it little bit. Keep it thick.
  10. Sprinkle black pepper powder and cook it from both sides by adding oil. Once it is cooked, take it out on a serving plate.
  11. Delicious 'Uttapam with Tomato Chutney' is ready to be served.
