Vermicelli Payasam  | Semiya Payasam  is a special South Indian dessert recipe which is cooked on special festival occasions to celebrate with family and friends.

Vermicelli Payasam | Semiya Payasam is a traditional Onam dish also. On this Onam, let us enjoy this delicious sweet which is not only tasty but also very healthy. Vermicelli Payasam | Semiya Payasam can be made by various ingredients like Rice or Broken Wheat but today we present with vermicelli | semiyan. Simple to make and delicious in taste, do try this at home.

Ingredients

  • Sevaiyan or Semiya- 1 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Milk - 3 glass
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Crushed Cashew Nuts (kaju) - 1 tablespoon
  • Crushed Cardamom (ilachi) - 1 tablespoon
  • Crushed Almonds (badaam) - 1 tablespoon
  • Saffron (kesar) - 1 pinch
  • Ghee - 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Heat ghee in a pan.
  2. Add sevaiyan and roast them properly for 2-3 minutes until they turn light brown.
  3. Add water and stir well. Let the water boil.
  4. Add milk and let it boil for 8-10 minutes until sevaiyan are properly cooked. Keep stirring in between.
  5. Add sugar and mix well.
  6. Add powdered cashew nuts, almonds and cardamom. Stir well.
  7. Add saffron for the aroma and taste.
  8. Your vermicelli payasam | semiya payasam is ready. Serve hot.
